Krillin Wrote:Depending on how the Turnover is proceeding, Retirement might be pointless/unnecessary. If it weren't, though, I don't think Greg has been here long enough to be considered for retirement. It isn't something that goes to just anyone who's been active for a couple years and gotten lots of stuff.

Excuse me? I thought the turnover thing had been thrown out already... due to:
A) it all but killing activity and
B) Dana + the server issues making it disproportionately hard to institute a new system.

I swear, if a turnover gets sprung on those of us who have remained active while those (staff and staff buddies) who knew it was coming have been setting back, not RPing, and not keeping us informed... I'm going to be as pissed as a wet hornet.

Person: "Surprise, a turnover was looming all along. We tricked you into RPing for no reason. Har har har! After all, you should be just writing to write anyways, am I right, am I right?"
Me: "Um... I do an RPG with stats for the stats, if I just wanted to write for the sake of writing, i wouldn't do it for a DBZ RPG. I'd do it for school, or on my own novel, or on a site that aims solely at improving at writing (like Helium).
Person: "Well those who have been here longer would be losing more time and effort in reset anyways, so don't bitch."
Me: "Not trying to bitch, just want to know if I'm wasting/ have been wasting (for the better part of a year) my time. I write here for the game aspect of this site. If there were no stats, I'd just hang around ooc cause I like the community. I see no reason to waste material now that I could use post-turnover."
Evil Doer: "Why wait till post-reset?"
Me: "... Because I'm here for the game and if I'm not getting proportionately rewarded for my efforts now, I'd rather save my energy and put out the material when it benefits my character in the game."

I expect the typical, "Roo, you're overreacting, there isn't any turnover." But if it turns out that I've been role playing for a game that is about to swipe my character's stats without knowing it, I can honestly say I'll be leaving, middle fingers high in the air.

Last I heard turnover was never completely shot down its just hanging on the edge of oblivion, and on indefinite hold.

Also, "Roo, you're overreacting"

Haven't we discussed this 3049829384 times?

There's been nothing going on in regards to the Turnover. Currently the focus is on getting activity up and recovering from the site move.

It's not happening, forget about it.

"Depending on how the Turnover is proceeding, Retirement might be pointless/unnecessary."

I left that sentence vague for a reason.

I'm not Staff anymore Aqua. I'm not in the loop. You can stop holding my word as canon. =p

Yeah, the turnover is still there, and will, odds are, happen someday.

It could be a year from now, or perhaps, seven. Regardless you shouldn't worry about losing your stats anytime soon.

In response to Krillin:

It seems like "act like it isn't happening" = if everyone knew/ knows it is happening, activity tanks.

So, it's like we either need to act:
1) like it isn't happening because it isn't (at least not any time within a year or so)
2) like it isn't happening because if we acted like it was activity would all but die (like it did when this was originally announced)

My fear is that staff is saying "act like it isn't happening" because, of course, they don't want us to act like it is. Because if we do, they know activity will tank (like it did when the original announcement was made). "Act" like it isn't happening, doesn't put me at ease, it makes me feel as though we're doing just that, "acting."

Either it is happening or it isn't. There doesn't need to be any ambiguous "act like it isn't going to happen" statements, or "we aren't really concerned about it at this point in time."

It seems from Waff's statements, that any potential turnover is way off in the distance (as in over a year away) and unimportant in the grand scheme of things. It isn't like I'm going "ZOMG, what did you say about deh turnoverzzzz!!!1!!???" It's more like, "Hey, those of us who aren't staff have never really gotten a definitive answer regarding a turnover and this comment said by X person perked my curiosity, could you clarify?"

If there was one, finite, unified answer from all of staff (without minor contradictions here and there from various staffers/ 'in the know' people) then I could understand your mockery of the general confusion. But what you need to remember is that some of us 'less cool' peeps don't have the privilege of knowing where staff stands on things because we don't have access to the staff forums (for obviously justifiable reasons) and the above things I mentioned skew our total comprehension.

So when you give partial, ambiguous, contradictory answers, the result is partial, ambiguous, contradictory knowledge.

I would listen to the waffle over krillin. Staff>not staff as far as this goes you know. Do that, forget previous answers that were along time ago and thus no longer relevant, and theres no contradiction.

Yeah, that definitely makes a lot of sense, but you can see how confusion gets started. A unified, finite, clear statement from the staff would avoid the entire problem. Waff's statement makes sense to me, but there's no guarantee (at this point in time) that there won't be another staffer that comes along and offers a slightly different account and stirs up further confusion.

It's not happening! I will give you at least a one year warning before it does (if it does).

There's nothing to worry about because it isn't happening.

If you make me Staff Member two I think we have a shot at getting this script made into a movie.

I'd just like to point out I didn't even make a statement as to whether or not the Turnover was happening.

This is what happens when you don't give a Philosophy major something to do.

Wow, this again.

Yeah, I don't think the staff are going to just pull something out of nowhere. I'm fairly sure (this is completely personal assumption) that one day in the far distant future there will be a such thing as a turnover taking effect. However, this is said on the same exact stance as the man that says "I'm sure that one day in the far distant future they will create Diablo III". There is no 100% guarantee one direction or the other, if that is what you are looking for. There is just the expectation that for now, with the current information the staff have, and the current opinion they are under, there will be no turnover. If, and only IF this decision ever changes, which is still possible as nothing is ever so definate that it'll never be brought back up for review, they decide to begin work on a turnover again, they will give you at least one year's notice from what I've gathered before the actual event happens.

All of this said from a completely outside "not in the loop" stance, by the way. From the same eyes as someone with the same information as yourself.
