Bojack Wrote:I really hate how I grew up listening to Bone Thugs N' Harmony and 2Pac. I don't hate it, it's just not my favorite kind of music, and now I find I'm playing a HELLISH game of catch up. I just discovered the Stones last month, for example.
My mother used to play the 'oldies' though, which was kewl.
*Sigh*
I hear you. I used to be proud of liking rap 'before it was cool.' Now I realize it never was; there's just a much larger proportion of stupid people now that political correctness doesn't let better people pick on them anymore.
Admittedly, I could still probably listen to the older stuff
once in a while, but this new stuff like 50 Cent and D-12 and all that garbage is just absolutely horrible. There's nothing 'artistic' about it. Not even close. I think the whole rap scene completely fell apart once Jay-Z quit.
And right now I feel like one of those stuck-up music nerds I despise so very, very much. Feel free to get your hate on.

I like Eminem's music... alot. Kanye has some great stuff too. I like emotional music that's amped so I listen to rap at parties and before I lift or run. But if I'm just driving in my car or trying to use my brain in any way, I can't handle it.

I'm pretty much rock/metal all the way. Weirdly enough, I listen to metal and screamo when I'm in a bad mood and it usually makes me feel a lot better.

If you're a stuck-up music nerd, then so am I.

For what it's worth I've been with Joy Division/New Order far before Control was released and the Killers redid 'Shadowplay'... though I have to admit they certainly payed tribute to the song quite nicely as you could definitely tell (for those who knew) that it was Joy Division's. Same goes with Orgy and their rendition of Blue Monday which was also very 'orgasmic'; once again justice done right.
Oh and Smashing Pumpkins roxorz.

Just so you're aware, I'm ignoring the single artist mandate; most of the bands I like are single artists.
1 Ben Folds
2 Regina Spektor
3 Damien Rice
4 Andrew Bird
5 Chuck Coleman
6 Levi Kreis
7 Sioen (for one song: Sleeping Beat. He'll probably go eventually.)
8 Ben Harper
9 The Fray
10 Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
11 Joshua Radin
