The World Ends With You
#1
Anyone with a DS should really go get The World Ends With You. For those who don't know anything about it, it's an "action RPG" (that's a direct quote from the manual, including the quotation marks) about a kid named Neku who gets sucked into a crazy game set in Shibuya. So far the story is great, the characters are really interesting, and the combat is a lot of fun.

At any given time (after the first 10 or 20 minutes, anyway) you have two characters in your party -- one on the top screen and one on the bottom screen. The top screen character is either auto-controlled by the computer, or you can use the + pad to enter combos and perform special moves. Neku, who's on the bottom screen, is where most of the playing comes in. By equipping certain "pins" you can perform various actions on the touch-pad to use different attacks. The first few pins you get, for example, let you create fire by dragging the stylus through an open area, attack with shockwaves by "slashing" the stylus across an enemy, or shooting balls of energy by tapping an open area.

The different combinations you can get with the pins, along with the number of enemies you can fight at once and having another character to do attacks with, can keep things at a pretty frantic pace, but its in a very good way. Its also pretty travel-friendly, since the game with hibernate at any time, even in the middle of story dialog. Fights also don't take very long on their own, but you can also chain fights together to make a longer series of fights if you have more time to kill.

Anyway, I definitely recommend it. Its a Square Enix game by the same team that made the Kingdom Hearts games (which will probably be obvious just from the box art) and more of the most entertaining hand-held I've played.

It gets a bit annoying switching between both screens, but it is fun, I'll admit.
Greg0rz (3:16:14 PM): if you cut Michael Moore, he would bleed cheese and bacon grease?
UltimoDemon (3:16:26 PM): I think that is very likely, yes.
Greg0rz (3:16:34 PM): *scribbles down*
Greg0rz (3:16:45 PM): do you mind if I quote you?
UltimoDemon (3:16:49 PM): Not at all.

I put Shiki on "auto: fast" and pretty much ignore the top screen. The only time I bother with it is when I want to sync so I can get some HP back.

And, so far, the game hasn't really made it necessary to pay too much attention to both screens.

I heard that it was "off the hook" and plan on trying it. I haven't gotten really into a DS game since Phantom Hourglass.

Wish I could try it, but I think my family would go berzerk if I spent money on a DS.

I absolutely love the name of the game and will probably make refferences to it in future RPs.

This game doesn't even know about hooks. Its like "gtfo wit yer hooks."

So go get it.

I've read good stuff about it. Kinda tempted, but I've got so many other games I want to buy/need to finish that I probably shouldn't.

Ok, so how the hell do you even come up with something like that, let alone follow through with it?

I think its the ending theme from Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

I was all set to get annoyed at you for trying to derail the thread... but fuck, man... that's amazing.

For comparison.

Though, I didn't listen to the whole thing (the mario video), so there's probably other stuff in there.

EDIT: Yeah, there's obviously other stuff in there. That was the only one I recognized, though.

I've noticed that at 6:10 they start playing Mega Man 2's Wily Stage 1-2 music, and switches very smoothly to God Knows at 7:00.

So I just finished my first seven days and I've decided this is a hard core addictive game.

I know, right?

Instead of sleeping the other, I played WEWY for another three or four hours...

Yeah I started playing last night and stayed up about and hour and a half later than I meant to (the bad part is that I didn't realize it). Then during senior project today (at this point in the year basically an eighty minute free time) I found myself wishing that I brought WEWY to school with me and then wishing even more when we went into a lock down (happens often at my school. . .annoying kids and paranoid staff) for about two and a half hours. . .I think I may join AD as a Reaper, too. . .

Niiiiice.

As an FYI, the various cell phone "icons" actually show stuff. The clock shows the actual irl time, based on the DS' clock, the battery shows the remaining battery life of the DS, and the others show stuff about the actual game.
