Final Fantasy XII

Ok, like seriously, I just got my ass kicked by a giant wolf.

How far is everyone? I just started my second Hunt in the Westersand, it's the one with the giant wolf and all it's lackies.

I'm only level 5 and I got rocked.

I have:

Armor:
Leather Cap
Leather Shirt
Wooden Sheild

Weapon:
Broadsword

Magicks:
Cure
Fire
Blizzard
Protect

Technicks:
Steal

If you're having trouble with the wolf, run around the desert and steal loot until a set of leather armor opens up from the bazaar. It'll be better than anything else you have then. Protect should be a huge help too, since you have it. A quickening would also make things significantly easier if you can stand the grind to get enough LP.

I just got to some tomb after traveling across the sand-sea. You won't be there for a bit, but there's a great cut-scene right before you start that "dungeon."

It would be more work than its worth to try listing out all the liscences I have, so I'll just summarize:

Ashe (leader)
Staves
Mystic Armor
White Magic
Time Magic
Green Magic

Vaan
Daggers
Shields
Light Armor

Balthier
Poles
Heavy Armor
Techniks

With the huge HP bonus from Light Armor, and the "Decoy" arcane magic, I'm using Vaan as my "tank." He has gambits set up for stealing, poaching, and attacking whatever's nearby. Balthier is kind of filler, at the moment. I've been quite impressed with Poles so far, though. Good attack, they as fast as swords are, and they combo fairly often; he doesn't have too many gambits, so he mostly just attacks and will throw out potions in more extreme situations (Potion and Remedy Lore liscences are lifesavers, by the way). I'm controlling my white mage myself, so I have gambits set for casting Protect on herself, and Decoy on Vaan. Between Vaan's high hit points, and the Charge technik, I can mess around with some of the Green and Time Magic and not have to worry about having the MP to heal when needed.

At some point I'll probably switch Ashe for Penelo and see how that works out. Penelo is also set up to be a mage, but is oriented more towards Arcane and Black magic. And once Fran gets her Katana she'll probably be taking Baltheir's place as back-up melee.

I haven't gotten to the Decoy technique, but right now I'm really only finding use in Vaan, Ashe and Basche, with Basche as my "tank", and I switch out for Fran when I need range. Ashe is turning into my "pally"-type thing, and Vaan is support/offense.

So you don't have any of your characters at range? I have Ashe equipped with a staff, but a lot of the time I just have her hang back and cast spells reactively. If, later on, I decide she doesn't need the boost to Magik Power (whether through armor, an accessory, or just leveling) I plan on switching her over to bows. Maybe guns if I get the bullets with blind on them.

Nope, but once I get to like a nice calm point I'll start pumping Fran up for some black magic using. Til then she's my pinch.

Where I am now is pretty calm though, I guess. I just got back to Rabanastre and I'm heading south to visit that village and it's raining and all that.

I just beat those Prison guard guys, they were simple...used fire on them and they all died rather quickly...same with those Flans.

So here's a tasty little tip. Once a character gets a second quickening, their MP doubles. Once they get their third, their MP triples. If you plan on having any character act as a heavy-duty spell caster, grab quickenings as quickly as you can. Ashe has some 270 MP for me at level 20.

I know where abouts you are Rad, or at least I knew where you were in the first post. I'm crossing the sandsea slowly. At about level 10. My party is Vann, Basch, and Balthier.

Vaan:
Zwill Sword
Headguard
Can't really remember the armour. On any of them. >.>

Baltheir:
Pole of some sort
Same armour as when I got him
Also given him the Nethicite.

Basch:
Basic settings for when I got him

All of them are set for potions at less then 50%, Vaan has Protect at <60%, Balth is more of my tank then any of them I guess, and Basch is majority support as he's got the higher healing factors on him.

And Rad, you reckon I should go via the other passage to the other other screwed-up-sandsea name? The one where you get to talk to a moggle and then fight some beast, and get some item that helps agasint the first Esper? >.>

I have Vaan set up for both stealing and poaching, so I generally end up with tons of loot. Sadly, I never have enough gil. Between equips, magiks, and techniks, my money's gone before I know it.

I recently got past the part with a judge talking about deifacted nethicite and I've run a couple of hunts.

I'm continually amazed at how epic the story of this game is.

How'd you beat Thextara?

Punched it in the face until it died. Seriously, all it took was a Broadsword and the leather armor from the bazaar. I used potions as needed and just went to town.

If you're having that much trouble, progress the story a little bit. There's a point early on in the game when you get Penelo in your party. Once you get her, just go fight Thextera with her before you move on in the story.

Actully how I beat it there >.>

I'm doing a spot of massive leveling and lisencing for all my people. Along with trying to get some relatively great weapons at the point I'm at. Vaan alone has the Ancient Sword, but I gotta boost up his armour abilities, and his health, massivily.

I just bought it the other day (yesterday). I just got out of the prison and I'm wandering round the abandoned traintracks and shit (as far as I can remember). Meh, I'll update the stats later.

Just got out of the prison and stuff and got back to Rabinasta(sp?).

Went and killed Thextara with just Vaan and some good old Black Magic...was rather easy this time. >.>

Oh, and the Traveller Technick, well, it's pretty sweet, so long as you run around like crazy before attacking lol.

What's the damage on it like? I've been very skeptical that it would do any decent amount.

It's ok, but from what I hear, you need a decent weapon to make it really worth it. And don't use a ranged weapon with it or you can't really run around to build it up.

I actually got a decently high(about 190...mind you I'm only level 6) hit point damage after a good deal of running around. It's tricky though, because if you run too far away, you'll lose your lock on your target and you'll need to retrigger it, that and the enemies usually give chase, so they'll end up making you prematurely attack, which sucks.

Honestly, it's a pretty decent technique with a group of people to destract a creature and give you time to run around.

I only use it when I run low on MP, that way I can gain more MP and gather up the charge to attack with it.

Oh and another good thing about this technick, it damages all foes within range, so it's not like you just charge up and attack one enemy, you attack them all.

Wait... how does it work, exactly? I was under the impression that the damage dealt would be based on the total number of steps you've taken during your play through of the game. That's incorrect?
