Melee combat techniques. This includes many different styles of physical attacks, either hand-to-hand or with weapons, ranging from basic martial arts to incredible bloodline limits and genius-level skills. At the very least, the shinobi must have some base fighting style which the rest of their Taijutsu revolve around.

The two most extreme forms of Taijutsu are the elite "Gentle Fist" style available only to the Hyuuga clan and the generic "Iron Fist" style which is the default art if no other style is chosen. The former is an open-handed striking method that uses the Byakugan's microscopic vision to detect the chakra holes across an opponent's skin, and then piercing those holes with one's own chakra to rip the holes open or seal them shut, either causing excess chakra leakage or preventing the shinobi from being able to use their jutsu. The latter focuses on enhancing the sheer power and speed of the strikes, inflicting direct damage to bruise muscles and break bones.

There are other family-oriented or otherwise restricted styles such as: Akimichi's which involve body-manipulation to alter their physical size; Inuzuka's that is a combination of the shinobi and their canine familiar fighting together; Kaguya's weaponized dancing that use the shinobi's own super-hard bones as the the weapons.
