The Wilderness Continent
#1
Your reasons are as varied as your races and skill sets, but you all now stand shoulder to shoulder on the sea slick deck of The Wandering Storm. It is one of an elite few ships crewed by men brave enough, or perhaps greedy enough, to challenge the countless leagues of rough water and make port at the new world.

It is a rough and uncivilized land, only discovered barely five decades past. It was found seemingly untouched by human hands by Isen Kage rogue admiral of the Kings Navy. He was quick to use his vast popularity among the little folk, and large retinue of ships, to found a new settlement free from tyrannical bonds. He named it Ardstead, the first Free City. Despite the Kings demand that no ship sail to the "Wilderness Continent" the population has boomed. Recently however it has attracted a different sort of person than the usual disenfranchised farmers.

Almost five years back a small group of youths ventured further than even the small border towns outside Ardstead and discovered something amazing: nestled in the valley between two hill was a city as vast as any back home, and completely abandoned save for the monsters within. They slew many beasts and brought the head of one of the massive statues back as proof of their find. It did not take long for countless of treasure hunters and thrill seekers to plunder the city for all it was worth.

Today you stand among peers, a second wave of adventurers who know that there is something more out there, for where one city stood why not more? There are rumors of some of the more greedy of the first adventures finding new sites, and promptly disappearing, left for dead by the more sensible back home.

To quote Admiral Kage, "The sensible die poor and forgotten. Fortune favors the bold."

Here is a rough map scribbled out by the ships navigator and handed out, this random act of kindness is left unexplained, seeing as he has no tongue. Maybe he likes drawing maps.

That black mass is swamplands, bordered by a forest and with mountains and hills to the northeast and plains to the northwest. Outward progress has been slow, and hampered but the innumerable dangers present in this untamed land. Further travel will have to be mapless.

More info to come over the next week(s)
