So like, in desperation (I guess?) I picked up Saints Row 2.
Actually it's not bad. Only, some things are retarded.
First up, the driving is pretty brutal but that's okay. It's manageable and the cars are borderline indestructible anyway.
Second, and more pressing, is that events that should be scripted aren't.
In one mission, you're in the passenger seat defending the car with a rocket launcher from a horde of bad guys while your friend is driving the car.
Only he's a terrible driver. And if he crashes and wrecks the car you lose.
The very first time I played this he drove into a pool. Mission failed.
Second time, he drove into a post. Fission mailed.
The third time I blew up my car. On purpose. Out of frustration. Listen tailed.
Four playthroughs and only one failure was my fault. That's stupid as hell. And the mission is LONG. >=(

I know the exact mission you're talking about. Fortunately, I only failed it twice when I did it.
Still, once you start getting cribs and decent income and stuff, it gets all kinds of awesome.

Saints Row 2 > GTA IV
That's pretty much the situation with this game. It has some hang ups, but it's much more fun and unique like the original GTA's which have no become hyper-real and lame.

It is remarkable in Saint's Row 2 how you can manage to be a walking God, in a car you'll be drinking, shooting, driving and smoking weed at the same time but there's not a single NPC that will avoid that curb that will make your entire car do a 180 and end up face to face with a policeman's shotgun so you instantly die.
That said, NPC driving is really the only problem I ever had with the game. I loved everything else.

I completely disagree. I vastly prefer GTA IV. Atmosphere, storyline, characterization, gameplay, everything is better in GTA.
And you can hardly call it 'hyper-real.' More like 'pseudo-real.'
I get your point, though. SR2 doesn't take itself as seriously so you get to do all kinds of ridic shit. Personal preference, though. I would never choose the Saints over Niko and his boys.

One time we were in Best Buy and I hear 'Saint's Row 2! That's a good one!' and I turn to see this over weight guy with a cheeto stained wife beater and matching beer gut buying the game for a pair of...8 year olds.
Wtf.
I bet they're awesome at it too.

I always preferred the stupid have-fun sandbox shit to GTA's realism angle, and I've been meaning to buy this for a while. Next time I see a used copy I'm picking it up.

Was playing co-op mode today. Riding naked in the passenger seat firing an RPG at police is... amusing. My British-accented gangsta is hardcore, yo.
