As you all should know, XP is earned automatically by a program that counts the number of characters in each of your posts. With that in mind, there are some things to be aware of regarding the use of "quote" tags.

When something is inside a quote it does not count for XP.
If there is something in a previous post that you want to add to your own and have your character respond to, use the quote tags. Don't just copy/paste other RPs to inflate your own character count. That's just not cool.
If you want to rewrite events that have already past from your character's point of view, though, that's fine.

Dunno. I'd imagine that it would work for images too, but I don't think anyone tried.

@ Cain: "Quote tags" are exactly that: the tags you use to quote other pieces of information on the forum. I think you're getting those mixed up with quotation marks.

This happened after I brought it up to Vad didn't it? lol
I've never used quotes in Rp's before and I don't intend to start now. I actually did copy and paste a CNN post, as it broadcasted in our ship and did a small edit to the end of it. I was in a rush so another could RP...
Afterwards I gave it some thought... a few days later I think... and noticed someone could do the:
"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
and do it a few times... and gather easy XP... or use the copy and paste and I went to Vad about it. I told him I think I found 2 ways to abuse the XP gain and he said something about him being staff... and I told him and told him that I knew he was staff and that's why I told him...

Not sure I abused the system... or at least intentionally. But if I did abuse the system, like I said after realizing it could be abused, I did go to a staff member and told him about it.
I've not lied nor denied anything.
But while this thread is put up, I will state that I hate using quotes and that I will not. If I find something relevant from another thread, that needs to be put in my thread, I will attempt to change it around, but if I can't really do it and make it flow with something I'm comfortable enough anyway else It will be posted as is.
If I have to inform a staff member about it.... I will so they can do whatever work they need to...
But I have a question...
Say I copied a CNN post and put some description in it to add to the words and such.
That wrong? It would describe how well my character noticed things... perhaps... But is it wrong?

If you go to a staffer yourself, nobody's gonna jump down your throat. Accidents/oversights happen. You're cool, man.
Copy/pasting bits and pieces aren't a big deal. Most of us copy/pasted a paragraph from Trafford's saga thread and used it in our posts recently. Stuff like that isn't a big deal, so long as it's relevant and short.

I don't like them when I write. Can't recall using them ever in any other RP.. and I dont intend to start now. If I have to find a way around it... I will and have a staff member read it later... but how can I try to find my own flow when I have to quote another person's own stuff in an RP?
Should I make it look sloppy unintentionally just to use something that was said in a quote? And what if I edit a section or add onto it? I should intentionally quote only a piece of it and still making it look whacked?
I'll go with Sage's point and do what I initially thought of doing.... and pointing out anything I do that involves copying and pasting from another.. if I don't really edit much to it... and they can decide if it's to excessive and do like they did with Mino's OCB.
I don't do it often enough for it to matter really... That I can recall... Nor does anyone with the exception of CNN posts and The DA announcements.
We've had 'dirty members' like the 'trolls' and such that would try to be vindictive... and such.... that's why I went to a staffer after I realized it. I can see a 'Dana' trying it.
To further answer your question.... I was attempting to work on 'flow' with Retane as ol' Broli suggested when I had Retane and I want to try and keep that practice up while I try to get deep in my character. I think Quoting shit would hurt a post im trying to do so in....

For the record, I wasn't talking about quotes every time you reference a few words that another character said. I just meant the big stuff; like, whole paragraphs from something else.

This was actually already the case, regarding quotes. We just hadn't realized it wasn't public information yet.
