Personally, I don't think he deserved it, even if his foreign policy is light years beyond Bush's. He's been shown to be basically

What's even more crazy is that nominations for the prize happened much earlier (I'm hearing February 1st). Obama was sworn in on the 20th of January.

To be fair, Obama has made significant strides towards nuclear non-proliferation, gotten people to back down on the insane missile shield idea, and seems close to getting N. Korea to open up talks.
So there's some impetus there. I just don't think there's enough, given that many of these acts have yet to pan out.

They're claiming that it's supposed to give extra credibility to the recipient, and Obama is "working" on pie-in-the-sky activities like abolishing nukes (lol), weakening our bargaining position by unilaterally abandoning the missile shield in Europe (lol), and reaching agreement with Iran for them to abandon their long-standing uranium enrichment and missile development programs (lol).
Basically, it's a group of self-aggrandizing do-gooders believing themselves capable of controlling preeminent international affairs via the legacy of the Death Merchant.

People are bitching because it's supposed to be a symbol for one of the highest honors a person could receive. And now it's clearly become a token prize for someone who's so far acted as a token president.
Unless he's done something important, what the fuck's the point? Nobody gave Einstein any accolades until he started doing something important -- and fucking world-changing. Before that, they actually thought he was probably retarded.

The award itself is trivial. All other Nobel Prizes are awarded for accomplishments, but the Peace Prize is all about politics and popularity. It's the adult equivalent of being crowned the prom king.

The Peace prize has nothing to do with what people have done. They usually give them out to people who are trying to get shit done so that they can have some more credibility or because they are wanted on the Nobel council.
The other awards are retrospective, the peace prize is not.
