Luna cracked her neck and shifted her jeep into fourth gear as she proceeded down one of the major freeways on Vegeta. She inhaled on a cigarette that was closing in on the filter and pressed her foot to the floor. Her black hair was flowing in the wind, the top of her jeep being down. She drifted her eyes to the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle and grinned at her assault rifle. She was extremely late for work at the base. Being a demolitions expert was not something she could afford to slack on, but she was the best. Her bosses knew that. Shifting her jeep into fifth gear she rammed into the two feeble metal bars creating the gate at the guard post by the southern entrance to the base.
The guard tried to flag her down. Spitting her cigarette out the window she continued onto the base. Pulling in front of the open garage bay at her building she noticed her partner backing out a delivery truck. She shut off the massive engine in her jeep and pulled the key from the ignition, placing it in a breast pocket. Sliding another cigarette from the pack in her pocket she placed it to her lips, but didn't light it. Instead she pointed a finger at the truck her partner was driving and unleashed a small stream of fire that licked the driver side window. She howled with laughter as he panicked and floored the vehicle back into a fence.
Luna went to the passenger side of her car and removed her flak vest and work kit. Placing a pair of goggles over her head she removed the assault rifle from her front seat and slung it over he empty shoulder.
"One would think a solider like you would have better nerves than that." She teased as her partner approached her.
Chad grunted. "You're the only one on the damn base who wields fire like a weapon from her fingertips. Not only that, but you use lightning as well...of course...I'm not falling for that one again."
He recalled the old fashioned handshake buzzer gag, but Luna had zapped him with enough voltage to send him off his feet.
"You know you liked it." Luna said with sarcasm.
"Always." He replied. "Now what's on the agenda for today?"
Luna bit down on her cigarette and poked her memory from the mission files on her kitchen table.
"HQ wants us to assemble a warhead tasked with taking out a city in another province. I assume that damaged delivery truck contained the required alloys and elements we'll need?"
Chad nodded.
"Did they say why they wanted this city taken out?"
Luna shook her head. "Just that our successful assembly of this weapon in time would get us double the funding next year."
They had entered the garage through an open bay door and had happened upon Luna's desk. Placing her toolkit down on the table and resting her assault rifle down next to it she slipped into her flak jacket. Taking a clip from the front pouch of her newly fitted jacket she took the rifle from the table. Loading the clip, a center piece just above the ammunition began to rotate. After a few seconds the gun beeped and ejected the clip.
"Does brass need that truck for anything?"
Chad looked at her with a puzzled expression. "I'm sure. Why?"
"Too bad. I upgraded this thing last night. Need to make sure it's working."
She raised the assault rifle to her shoulder and walked toward the entrance of garage bay one. Pulling the trigger a violent spray of blue energy bolts split into the hood of the truck. A low frequency hum alerted her that a grenade round was charged and she pulled the pump lever underneath the barrel and unleashed a white orb that collided with the engine of the truck. It erupted into orange flames and shredded itself from within.
With each shot the barrel expelled blue excess energy into the air around it. Every thirty shots it charged enough recoil energy to fire a grenade round. Just like she had designed.
"Yeah...Jim isn't going to like this." Chad said with a sigh.
"I hope not. His car is on fire." She said with a laugh.
Lifting the weapon she rested the butt on her elbow and pointed the barrel toward the ceiling. Taking the cigarette in her mouth from her lips she lowered the gun and pressed it to the barrel. It lit and she immediately took a drag.
"Why do you do this, Luna?" Chad asked with a hint of worry in his voice.
Pressing the burning cigarette to her vest she extinguished it and exhaled the smoke.
"You really don't get it do you." She spat at him, lowering her weapon to him. She loaded another clip and the same beep sounded and it ejected the spent cartridge.
"I hate it here. I don't particularity enjoy making bombs for our military." She looked away and blushed.
"You met someone..." Chad laughed. "You're doing this over a guy?"
She leveled the weapon with her partner's face as her boss entered the room behind him.
"He's a low class, Chad. I need to be discharged to stand a chance at being with him."
Her partner looked at her with shock. She was deliberately trying to disgrace herself to be with a low class warrior.
"What's his name?" He asked, before placing a hand on his pistol.
She shook her head, closing her eyes. "Toma..."

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.
