PL and CA
#1
I'm sure it says something about this SOMEWHERE, but I'm curious what the conversion between PL and CA is. I mean, they're totally different numbers as far as what they mean in the fluff, whereas PL is a measurement of ki and energy and all that shit, and CA is the basic raw "I can kick your ass" score that takes everything into account, but are they similar at least? Like, could I compare Vic's score to Goku when he gets scouted at the very beginning of the series?

Just curious. I mean it'd help, ME at least, with writing my characters with an appropriate amount of power.

As far as I know, our CA is roughly the exact same thing as a PL.

CA is your overall Ability to fight, it's not a direct correlation to PL. Characters in the new Chubbs are considerably weaker then the Original Series counterparts. Even amongst the strongest characters like Kaden and Vic, they don't have the sheer power to destroy a city like characters with a 10,000 power level could.

At most they could destory a city block by expending all their energy.

This is news to me. I was told by Kaden many moons ago that it was a 1-1 correlation. This was back when we were all 3k.

It's been revised since then?

Yes power scaling wise it was necessary.

I actually like this much better. We're not like behemoths who can play puppet master with the universe, we're just average citizens with an extraordinary ability, not Gods who walk among the average citizens.

While that's all well and good as an idea, I'm not sure how I feel about it for this universe.

The idea that a Super Saiyan is weaker than Goku was at the beginning of Dragonball Z (Goku and Piccolo ruined an entire island at the end of Dragonball) is an idea that's extremely alien to me.

And before any of you go "durrhurrhurr adapt shitty writer," I *can* do it. I even enjoy lower powered play. It's just I wonder why we make pretensions to this being a DBZ forum - even in inspiration - if the powerdown is this severe.

I kind of agree with Belle, but, for obvious reasons. I mean, I tend to underplay her power anyway, but you guys make it sound like us Z Fighters aren't all that special. Oh well.

They didn't start destroying cities until much later on in the series, the ridiculous power levels aren't necessary for us to enjoy the Dragonball atmosphere.

Agreed, it adds a sense of reality to the universe too. But that's my opinion, which should be taken with a grain of salt. I mean, I hated DBZ, absolutely despised it and hardly watched it strictly because of the ridiculous nature and power of its characters. Actually, I have no idea how I ended up here.

Oh well.

No, they're not necessary.

I still like them, though.

You can still do major damage, just don't think you can destroy cities and planets without breaking a sweat.

I've kinda been under the assumption that I could destroy a planet if I wanted, but only for story purposes (being a saiyan and all.) Is that moot?

You guys are basically Iron Man and Spiderman. You can break out some destruction and pain and are a lot better than standard ordinary Wal-mart shoppers, but you aren't Soulja Boy running around going "BITCH I LOOK LIKE GOKU"

So if we're Ironman at 10k CA, that means someone starting out at 500 CA is, what, an average joe shmoe that just happens to have 2 abilities?

Because before 500 CA was Spiderman level.

We aren't quantifying Power Levels beyond a generic range in the scope that we intend to keep the RPG focused around. This was a deliberate decision made when we moved the system to generic Combat Ability, a measurement of one's total efficiency in a fighting situation, rather than absolute combat potential, which is what I'd consider Power Levels to be.

I'm not going to say that "before 500 CA was Spiderman level" and "at 10k CA you are Ironman" because then someone is going to insist that we specifically label each rung on the ladder with another super hero to help convey the concept. Its not at all necessary to this RPG's function to do this because we don't care what steps will be taken to reach Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta status because we have no plan one way or the other in regards to this actually being reached for quite some time.

More or less, I'd say that you can consider starting to be a character's "awakening" time period in the X-Men universe, where they might be training at the Xavier school or such. Beyond that scope, you'll probably over the course of severe training make your way up to the levels of strong, capable, and still not Earth shattering fighters like Storm (very strong character, but not absolutely ridiculous) or Cyclops or something. Its possible that a few people in the upper tiers might reach the status I'd consider Magneto and Xavier to be at. Apocalypse? Highly unlikely outside of single saga use. Phoenix and Galactus level of strength? Nothing is ever absolutely ruled out, but I'd like to give a confident answer that I simply do not ever see this happening.

This all refers to player characters and not NPCs, just to clarify.

Aight. So, as far as I see it, when Victoria finally posts enough to get to 1 million, it'll be like... Goku at the beginnin of Frieza saga or maybe at the very end of the fight with the Veg master. That is the absolute top cap of the proposed PLs, when you start to like... for serious F Shizz up to tha max.

EDIT: Ok, I meant like, a million exageratively. More like 50k or something else huge and difficult to reach. That seems to fit the scaling more. And is like... you know, actually POSSIBLE.

So, if Sigfried hadn't brought this up, were you planning on ever actually explaining this? Because as far as I knew, and apparently as far as everyone else knew, this had been developed between the new generation's inception and now, according to Josh's reply to Belle. And unless I missed something along the way, then this has never been outright stated or explained until now.

Anything else you'd like to take out of the staff closet, dust off and show us mere members?

We don't intentionally hold anything back from the members.

Likely what happened was the topic was being kicked around and discussion was being had about where we wanted members' perceptions to be about overall character strength and someone vanished or quit staff or some other drama happened that pushed the discussion to the back-burner and it was just never picked up again.

I really don't understand why you constantly have this attitude like we're attempting to be overtly malicious when something goes forgotten. This particular topic is something that is very abstract and largely irrelevant for the majority of storylines and the average quality of writer we have here. It's easy to forget about. Yes, it sounds like a major thing, but it's not.

Fortunately, player perceptions have stayed the appropriate course even with this having gone unsaid. No, we don't want people flying around the universe leveling cities at will. You guys don't seem to want that either. The important part, regardless of whether or not something if officially stated, is that we're all on pretty much the same page. That seems to be the case.

I apologize that this particular topic ended up getting brushed aside and thank Sigfried for giving us a deserved kick in the ass about it.
