Custom Technique Prices
#1
It may be just me, but the prices for Custom Techniques seem a bit steep. I mean if something like Ki Control (the ability to project Ki in general) costs a mesely 5 XP, why does a basic usage of that power (i.e. a simple beam attack) cost 15 XP?

The strength of the energy usage is what determines the XP cost. 15 XP is the equivalent to a normal Kamehameha level energy blast or beam.

It just seems a bit odd that something like Telekinesis, a very versatile technique, costs 25 XP while a simple rushing attack might cost the same amount, if not more.

It doesn't appear that techniques are being priced based on Utility, but instead on their assumed power.

Yeah pretty much. The new system that' we're transferring into right now addresses that. There's a flat price for custom techs because of this very issue. Sooo, just hang around and it should be gone! Big Grin

(That is unless I've mucked something up again and didn't get it xD)

Oh really? Well that's great to hear then. Looking forward to the transfer when/if it comes to fruition. =D

It's also based around what you're trying to do to your opponent, how much it's going to affect them, if it's going to slow them down, disable one of their custom techs. Etc etc.

All of that weighs in on the price as well as how much power it has.

EDIT: For example. If I wanted to shackle someone to the ground for five seconds, the price would be more than if I wanted to shove a beam in their face.

Telekinesis, by itself, is a fairly useless technique in combat and for dealing damage, in my opinion. By adding custom techniques that utilize Telekinesis, then yes it can become a very versatile power.

Using energy in general does not require a custom technique. By having Ki Control, you are allowed to formulate energy orbs and beams and stuff. Custom techniques are only required for the stronger, more unique variety.

.

To elaborate on that, the description for Telekinesis even says, I believe, that on it's own it isn't very good for combat, but it can be used to for a custom technique that will utilize it.

I see, so if someone were to possess Ki Control, they are free to utilize that power to blast the opponent with, say, a Ki Blast. However if they actually have Ki Blast as a Custom Technique, the potency is far more powerful. Is that correct?

And yeah I noticed that in the description for Telekinesis, but still thought it to be useful in the hands of a creative mind. For example, you may not be able to damage the foe but you can still hinder there vision momentarily by telekinetically tossing a veil of dirt in front of them.

EDIT: I also realize that this system has been implemented for quite a long time now, so I'm not expecting to come in here and single-handedly attempt to change it based on my own opinion. I just wanted to bring it to light. =D

I'm going to address both separately. ;D

Your logic is correct about Ki Control. You can shoot beams, energy blasts, deflect them. Everything basic is at your disposal. (I like to include power up and suppression for flavor with Vad as well as aura control.)

If I wanted to make my Ki stick to something, that would be a custom tech because you're augmenting your Ki do something different than just have a blunt force/explosive impact.

Now. On that note. Someone with Ki Control and Ki Spec is going to be more potent than someone with only Ki Control. Logically someone, like Ki Spec described, who can manipulate Ki as easily as breathing would have an advantage. Kaden usually describes it as a massive pool of energy. I'm going to do a similar thing with Simone.

Alright. Onto telekinesis. I've never really had to think about it's basic usage, but I'm going to follow my logic, so bare with me. Basic telekinesis might involve lifting chairs, floating objects, and yes in this case I don't think a simple burst of dirt would fall under the category of Custom Tech. Now if you want that dirt to say, assault the target or rapidly spin around them trying to constantly confuse and disorient them. Then yes, that would require a custom, because again you are augmenting Telekinesis with more strength.

See where I'm going? ;D

As for your edit, it's no trouble. Asking questions and giving opinions is the best way, in my eyes, to understand the system. I'm glad to be of service.

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.

Mkay I definitely understand it better now, and the logic of it all does make sense.

I hate to use myself as an example because it gives the impression of being biased, but...well, here we go. XD

I have Fire Control as an Ability. Now, since with Ki Control (Which is just a Technique mind you, not even an Ability) you can perform basic impact attacks, would I be allowed to perform a flamethrower-esque attack without requiring a Custom Technique for it? Also, would something like covering my fist in flames and punching the opponent require a Custom Tech?

Yes. You would be able to use a flamethrower-esque attack without a custom. Though, like previously discussed it's power would be lesser than that of a flamethrower attack that has been made into a custom tech. The same logic is applied to your flaming fists. You can do it, but it will weaker than a custom tech.
