Saga Awards
#1
With the end of the saga comes a bit of a lull, as it gets resolved and worked out and what-have-you; and what BETTER to fill that LULL with an awards ceremony?

There are seven categories for voting. They are:

Best Writer - Self-explanatory
Best Post - Self-explanatory
Best Thread - Self-explanatory
Funniest Moment - Self-explanatory
Best Fight - Need not be between two members. (link to particular post(s) for this one)
OH SNAP - The most ridiculous/surprising/awesomest event in the saga (link to particular post(s) for this one).
Reader's Choice - Amazingness that doesn't fit into any of the above categories? Stick it here.

These awards come with a token XP award of 5 XP, and also comes with an actual Award assigned through the forum. These awards will be assigned specific to the saga, and will be a perpetual trophy of accomplishment.

We will have two rounds of voting; this, the first, will be a 'test-vote.' Get your stance out there, explain why (using this opportunity to provide feedback on your peers) you have selected a particular one (paragraphs, obviously, are not important; just a little comment). Keep an eye on what your peers vote for; they may have read something that you missed.

So, vote-discuss now. In three days, this will be closed, and we will have the final vote over a period of three days.

This voting process, it should be mentioned, is open to people who did not participate in the saga. However, if you did not participate in the saga and you wish to vote, you must make it clear in the comment to your votes that you did indeed read a substantial portion of the saga. Don't want people just voting for friends, or for the one topic they read.

Funniest Moment: John Doe

Quote:The general reached into his pocket and pulled out a pair cigars. He broke both of them in half, and placed each of the four halves into his mustached mouth. He lit all four cigars before returning to his stern and stoic state. Across his breast was his nameplate, which simply read "Fightmaster."

Hands down, the most hilarious/badass thing in the saga.

If life gives you lemons, hand them to me!

Best Writer - Victoria. Vic really has a knack for description, and I like that about her writing. Being the first time I've read her posts at all, I was still able to get a feel for who Victoria was and her situation. Very nicely done.

Best Post - Chubbs Story Account in La Belle Dame sans Mercy. Post 2 (Update). Burn After Reading, awesome.

Best Thread - Of The People. This one is a no brainer. Filled with some of the saga's best writing and certainly the most creative thread of the bunch. Good job!

Funniest Moment - Um, anything between Kaden, Sophia, and Loch. I'll be sure to pick a single moment when the time comes, but I'm certain I got my biggest laugh from those three.

Best Fight - Kaden in Defense of the Ancients. Post 8. A DBZ RPG with a DBZ style fight? Awesome. My personal choice for best fight of the saga.

OH SNAP - Sigfried in Of the People. Post 16. (Spoiler alert!) NO ROY NOOOOOOO!!!

Reader's Choice - Loch in The Tempest. Post 15. One of the longer posts, but a very good read regardless. Introducing a new, interesting character into the mix of chaos and quips. A favorite moment in the saga.

Some of these picks are subject to change, because I'm only acting on my memory of what I've read. Once more people start pointing out particular scenes, I might change a few of these picks.

Best Writer - Sigfried, his ability to weave and write the story in Of the People was fantastic.
Best Post - Sigfried's post #23 in Of the People. Two different things happening at once, so different, yet it went so well. Not only that but he did an amazing job at giving the feel for the environment, and working the characters properly.
Best Thread - I don't want to be biased, but Of the People has to be one of the better threads created, it's very in-depth and the most active (in my opinion)
Funniest Moment - John Doe, I found actually that his beginning stuff was hilarious, and through most of the saga he did a good job at keeping it humorous. He may not have been the strongest but he did keep things funny.
Best Fight - Kaden's post in the Tempest thread #33. I always did like the way he writes fights, and this one was not only awesome, but the end was creative and mildly amusing.
OH SNAP - Sigfried in Of the People. Post 16. Shocker, total twist, I can't say more.
Reader's Choice - I have to say that I found Jarka's character to have grown a lot through the saga, I like how she involves her powers and she becomes hardier to adapt to what's going on. Definitely like how she took it and made it work, especially near the end.

Best Writer - Victoria
Best Post - Sigfried: #23 Of the People. See Victoria's comment above. Couldn't agree more.
Best Thread - Of the People.
Funniest Moment - Basically echoing what John Doe said. I found the dialogue between Kaden, Sophia, and Loch entertaining and fun to write. Definitely can't claim to be unbiased, but I would throw my vote at one of those three for any of the numerous awkward conversations they had.
Best Fight - Can I vote for my own? I'd like to vote for the same one Victoria did. #33 in The Tempest. Had a lot of fun being able to write three characters that all fought differently.
Oh Snap - C'mon. We all know who gets this vote.

...

Sigfried. He gets the vote.

Reader's Choice - John Doe. Creating an entertaining thread while working with fellow writers who are showing an interest in what's going on is, to be honest, not the most difficult feat. Creating and maintaining (for the most part) an entertaining thread when you're off on your own on a planet that nobody cares about not having anyone else to work with is a much more challenging achievement.

Best Writer: Victoria. She really shocked me about how kickass of a writer she was. I for whatever reason thought she was just a power poster, but she's a really good writer. Huzzah!

Best Post: I don't know if I can say the same post can be TWO things, but I think Tempest #33 is great. When Kaden moved the shit with Unseal I was like BOHHHHHHH!! And then the fighting in it was also made out of kickass, so there's that.

Best Thread: I disdain voting for things that I've been a part of, but the two people that wrote with me in Of The People deserve an immense amount of credit. They both really surprised me as writers and brought some kickass stuff to it.

Funniest Moment: While it's difficult for me to call upon just one "moment," this award goes to John Doe.

Best Fight: Kaden in Tempest #33 man. It was just dope as balls with all that DBZ style fightin and junk. Also he did a really good job of making me feel like he was writing FOR each character and not ABOUT them.

OH SNAP: I... I just can't think of another one. I hate voting for my own shit. I feel like a scumbag, but I really just can't think of another one. The one where Roy gets shot lol

Reader's Choice: I'd have to say Jarka. It was a very close call between Doe and her, but I have to respect Jarka for doing so damn well in her first saga/major storyline. She kept everything very interesting, specially considering she's a FUCKING COOK and kept in character for that.

Best Writer - Okay, I'mma cheat a little and do two. On one hand, I vote Juno - I really enjoyed the tone and pacing of his writing and was bummed when his activity dropped off towards the end since I was looking forward to hearing more from him.

Also Best Writer - In my other hand is a vote for Sigfried. I was completely, honestly blown away by him this saga. This kid pumped out complex posts that were several thousand words long each cycle like it was nothing and did something totally innovative with the saga. I mean, he was able to make a storyline in which the most powerful veteran of the site, a two year member, and a noob were easily able to interact equally and significantly. That's a pretty big feat. Not only that, but he has, in my opinion, one of the more interesting characters on the site with the way he applies the body split/shapechange as an integral part of his character with Sig/Hati/Skoll/etc.

Best Post - I thought the way Vad handled The Tempest #2 was really interesting. A lot of people have done flashbacks, but it was neat to have the exact quotes to show much Vad/Trixie have grown as characters and a writer. The quote blocks were pretty jarring, but I felt like that's how it would be in Vad's mind at the time, his life flashing before his eyes on the way to almost certain doom. Also, I'm always a fan of plans failing.

Best Thread - Defense of the Ancients It was a bit short because they joined The Tempest, but I really enjoyed the small scale of just Sophia and Kaden doing their part to fight off the invasion.

Funniest Moment - See above: John Doe being John Doe.

Best Fight - Start working on your speech, Kaden, because The Tempest #33. I guess you are just really good at writing fights.

OH SNAP - HEY GUESS WHAT? Sigfried in Of The People. LOL SURPRISE.

Reader's Choice - Meer for telling me to join the saga and Sigfried for constantly nagging me to ignore grad school and write. It was totes fun and I'm so glad I joined in. Smile Cop out? Yes it is.

Also Reader's Choice - Piper. I'm serious! I know she's probably not eligible, but it was something I wanted to bring up for a while and, after all, this is the miscellaneous category. Anybody who followed the latest threads in her dragonball storyline will know that she brought up the events of the invasion quite frequently, despite Piper not being directly involved. I thought this was a neat little nugget to find and really brings a cohesive feel to the site. Eh, I'm such a sucker for consistent worlds.

Also Reader's Choice - The gravitational pull of the sun for doing such a good job of keeping the world spinning.

No. I can't. I know for a fact that I'm neither of them.

Put Vad John and Sophia in most of them and Kaden in the other ones...

That works right?

I wont give Sigfried a vote cuz the person posted after the final deadline. Oh well... the Most important thread seemed to be Tempest... But half them went inactive... Really I was the only one left in my team and evenI ran out of time because of life.. but thats my fault...

I could have made one more 900 word post but It wasnt gonna be good enough so I just hung it up...

Just Put my votes to the guys that started and finished...

And if that dont work... Make it John Doe, Sophia, Kaden for the three and then flip a coin between the trio and pick a thread.

When did Sigfried post after the final deadline? The last post in our thread was 23 hours before the cut-off.

Jarka Wrote:Also Reader's Choice - The gravitational pull of the sun for doing such a good job of keeping the world spinning.

I wonder how this actually works on Namek. The planet has two suns, and since there is perpetual daylight and it is never dark one can assume that the suns are more or less on the exact opposite side of the planet from one another.

Kind of like this: o O o

Where the two small o's are suns and the O is Namek. And since the suns are probably aligned like that, how does this affect the planet's spin? DOES NAMEK SPIN AT ALL?!
