We're planning to go to Canada on friday, it's only an hour drive from here, but I don't know if we need passports. Has anyone crossed? I have a valid driver's license and I was 'assume' that would be enough, but does anyone know for sure?

I walked across the Niagara Bridge from the US to Canada. I spit in the falls. Three days later, the infamous blackout rolled across the land.
Anyway, getting from the US to Canada is a breeze. Getting from Canada to the US is a lot more hectic.

True, true. Although I'd like to recount that I actually drove someone else's truck into the States from Canada. All I had to do was answer a couple questions. Seriously, just be honest. They asked me if it was my truck, I said "no". They asked me who owned it, I answered. Criminal record? No. Okay. Go to the States. Bai.
I seriously doubt it's as complicated as that site says, 'cause this happened only like, a year after 9/11. It's been a while now... I imagine security's still uptight, but... that many searches would be absurdly expensive, not to mention inefficient and time consuming. As long as you're polite and don't say anything stupid, you'll be fine. ...Unless you're Arabic. -_-;
In any case, bring your driver's, birth certificate, proof of citizenship (if you have it), and I would strongly recommend a passport. Canada and the United States may be two of the most forward-thinking countries in the world, but the border is our own little strip of Gestapo land. =(

At which part? The immense personal freedoms part, or the Gestapo land part? Either way, it won't be me you're upsetting.
And BJ, consider this; it's currently -39 celsius outside. Convert it. It fucking sucks. =(
To think, I meet people who don't even know what a block heater is, much less have to use one. ...Bastards.

Sure.
Yes, it is very cold, it's -46 right now, even though it's sunny.

Yeah, they just ask you a couple questions. Its real easy. Yes/No questions too, for the most part. My part of Canada has black ice... no school
Black ice = no school?
Sheeit. I'll bet your cities shut down after two inches of snow, too, eh?
School rarely ever shuts down here, unless it dips below -50 (NOT counting windchill), and even then, we'd have to be weathering a blizzard so that vehicles literally cannot trudge through the snow at the same time.
...Winterpeg's fun that way. -_-

its almost midnight and I still have my front door open.
But jeez, that has to suck being that cold up there...wow...never really experience that cold of weather down here. i think the coldest that it has gotten that I remember was -30 with windchill, and that was like 10 years ago.

Only if you're a little BITCH and can't take it. I, personally, love the snow and hate people that whine about it. If they want Plus 10 degrees in January, move to Miami.
-_-
Winter's gay and should be illegal.
