Pre-Liminary Round 1: HF17's Group - Team Megaman
#1
Team Megaman
Hellfighter 17
Violet
Murasaki
Kirano - Gone.
Super Buu

Hellfighter 17 will supply you with a team-based task. He will decide who advances into the second pre-lim stage based off your performance during the task.

Kinda like what BJ's doing. This isn't a task, but still.

State the strengths and weaknesses of yourself and your fellow players, and state whther you think they will overcome each or any of them. The more in-depth the better, but I am not expecting a book.

Self: I have loads of ideas, and some of them won't be able to be used unless Jeroen comes back...>.> Of which I have plans of cyber stalking him down and dragging him back. I think the weakness I will have is a certain tendancy to nag and or be flammatory, but with enough control, I am sure I can be on my best behavior.

Murasaki: He was a staff member before, but lack of activity will kick your ass. Just don't pull no dissapearing acts, and you will be fine.

Super: Don't know why he isn't staff already. I can't really figure out what would go wrong with him, I mean, he knows shit that I don't even know about this place, randomly firing off facts, and such. Plus, he'd be good with running saga's and storylines. He's got a rather fertile imagination.

Kirano: he runs his own game, its not really what you call successful like this place or FoF, but he knows a little bit. Perhaps he can use this experience to gain some insight into how a major RPG runs, as long as he can shift out of dickmode and use some self control.

I'm going to be brutally honest here, so don't take it personally.

Violet - Though I rank you #1 out of my teammates for potential staffing ability, I'm also probably going to be the most harsh on you. That's because I know you best out of all my teammates. Don't take it personally. Wink

Your greatest strength is, by far, your dedication to the RPG. You're active both IC and OOC - a balance that's looked upon highly in a staffer. Your sheer activity would lend you well to the task of updates and the like.

Your greatest weakness comes in the form of 'higher up' tasks. I often get the impression that you don't think ideas through. Too late, you sometimes realise that some ideas are good in theory, but not so great in execution. This is mostly drawn from past ideas on the CU forums, or some of your QSU suggestions.

I also don't think patience is one of your strong suits. As you know, I like to spend the absolute maximum time on just about everything, and I get the feeling you prefer doing things faster. (You kinda proved my point by throwing up a post during the time it took me to write this XD)

Kirano - Let's be honest. He's an idiot. I can only guess that he's in this contest 'for the hell of it' and doesn't expect to actually become staff. My qualm with Kirano is mainly just that he doesn't take things seriously. I can deal with people who try and fail, but Kirano just fails.

Murasaki - I haven't seen much of you, and that's pretty much the focus of my complaint. Your activity seems to come in bursts, where you'll be active for a while, and then go invisible for a prolonged period of time. Like I said, while you're here you're pretty active, and that's a good thing. But I don't feel I know you well enough to go beyond that in judging your abilities.

Me - My main worry, a constant concern at the back of my mind, is that I'll lose interest in the RPG. As I have Asperger's Syndrome, I tend to have very narrow, focused interests - anything outside of my current 'topic' is completely disinteresting to me. Right now, my life is Chubbs. But if I suddenly lose interest, then I'll subsequently find it very hard to motivate myself to work on it.

The redeeming aspect of this is that I'm not someone to 'camp' on a position of power. If I don't see myself returning to a decent level of activity in a moderating position, I'll pass the baton on to someone who can cope. There are plenty out there.

Ok lets see if I can do this. We'll go from easiest to hardest to judge.

Kirano: Out of all the people in this competition you seem to be the one choice everyone is confused about. Over my time in this RPG I have known you as Bon Para (I believe) and Kirano. As both you have seemed to show less brain activity then a comatose patient however this can be both a good thing and a bad thing. You can use this to your advantage to completely take the opposition by surprise while we are all left with our pants down so to speak, however if your behavior continues as it has over your tenure here I suspect you will be booted before the end of this prelim.

Suppa: You are a great role player and an excellent addition to the OOC aspect of the boards. I don?t believe I have seen you go MIA while I have been here which is a good thing. You have both smarts and wit about you. I guess I couldn?t really give a downside other then I think you might be too new at this. Once again, I like you man, and I don?t know to much about you other then I really like reading your stuff.

Vi: You are a pretty cool chick and we still get to go to Dutch land to kick some freaky Dutch ass and then smoke. You are a great person to both chat with randomly and to RP with, it?s even better if you are doing both at the same time. I guess my only worry with you would be your temper. While it is kept in check most of the time it slips every now and then. Most of the time you have the level headedness to post it in the Kame House where the younglings cant see it and thus it has kept you out of trouble, however you have let it slip before, just be careful.

Jew boy:Hmm?.It is always hardest to grade ones self. You either go to harsh or not harsh enough, either way can be a bad thing. I believe my advantage over the others is my experience. I have been staff here before, as well as the only other real Zento Clone, Assassins. I know what it takes and how to do the job, I just lack the patients. That is my one big problem and the one thing I feel I will have to over come the most. If not the vanishing but the reputation. I can say with as much certainty as I can that I won?t vanish again, however, the reputation is still there. It?s like in the work place if you get an accusation of sexual harassment filed against you. You might not have done it, you might never do it however there it is, on your record for ever. I will try my best, do my best, and hopefully that won?t come into play to much.

Hope that?s what you wanted HF!

I still want to see Kirano's, but I'll go ahead with the task anyway.

The first task should be fun. I want you guys to make up a set of rules that would allow custom characters in Chubbs. I will be judging based on your performances in this thread and how you lay into teh final product that is posted. You have 48 hours, lots of time. Go!

I discussed this a little with Violet, and decided that this would probably be the most efficient way of carrying out the task (this is here for Hellfighter, Kirano, and Murasaki's benefit).

All four of us come up with our own custom character system and post it here. Doesn't have to be entirely comprehensive, you could post just your best ideas or everything you have. Then we take the best of each and pull it together.

Sound good?

Sounds good to me. Here are some of my thoughts, this isn't a complete list, as I like to also build off of other's ideas.

Rules for custom characters:

--perhaps if they are going to allow customs in, perhaps have a set of guidelines such as what races they can be, powers, teirs, stuff like that, create a sort of mix and match list of features for the character, sort of like when you play, for instance, Need for Speed underground, you go and pick certain features for your car, sorta like that.

*For races other than what is specified, they have to fill out a section on the request for a custom character what the race is, either classified as a transformer, non transformer, Saiyan, changeling, etc. etc, to correspond with the appropriate power tiers, so that instead of having a separate power teir for each new race, they would have to conform to one of the preset types. (see form below)

*They can make up another planet, but it won?t have any effect on the current planetary setup that is going on now. It would be a part of their heritage, but they can never travel to it. Just there basically for RP fodder.

* another good idea to think of is not to let new people join as customs, but available to more established members, like, if you have been playing for a year without leaving and rejoining, just straight playing and only a limit to three MIA's a year, then perhaps that person could qualify for a custom. Why give a custom to someone who is only going to show up just to roleplay for a month with a custom and then disappear? Why not give the opportunity to someone who has worked hard during their stay here and fit comfortably within the community?

-- Stat reduction for those switching to their own custom character would -25 for generic DBZ characters, to deter players away from just sulking along for the year and then switching over to a custom. Don?t really want 50 million players switching to customs, or this wouldn?t be a DBZ RPG.

*Perhaps implement a limit to how many customs can actually be part of the game to keep with the continuity of a DBZ RPG.

Custom?s form

Custom Name:
Age:
Sex:
Home Planet:
Racial features: (such as Sei Sei regeneration, Oozaru capabilities, etc. etc.)
Class: (transformer, non transformer, Siayan, changeling, etc.)

Why should you be permitted to become a custom character? (and write a short essay, about 200 words on why they should be able to get a custom, and why their current character isn?t working out, perhaps because a new joinee wanted to be that character badly enough, or they can?t really further the storyline anymore of the character they have)

The difficulty in creating a custom character system is that Chubbs already has its policy of custom characters pretty much set in concrete. Tongue In other words, getting a custom character is currently a very rare scenario. It would be nigh-on impossible to come up with a system pertaining to this policy, so I?m going to assume from here on out that custom characters aren?t going to be (in this made-up scenario) exclusive to a few.

First off, we have to address the obvious - we don?t want everyone and their mother to be a saiyan. Having a whole menagerie of races like Namekian and Changeling make things a lot more interesting than just 100% saiyans.

Therefore, we need some kind of penalty system - I?ve decided to make one based on the current number of each race. There would be a ?master list?, edited each time someone joined, left, or switched characters (if VJ could code it in, that?d be nice). It would look something like this;

Saiyan (includes human/saiyan hybrids) - 16
Changeling/Icer - 4
Konat - 2
Namekian - 6 - start with Regeneration
Android - 7
Robot - 1
Tuffle - 1 - start with Infiltration
Bojack?s race - 4
Reptilian - 1
Cat - 1

This list is not complete, as some people obviously have 'unknown' races already. Wink

You would only start with the abilities assigned to your race. I?m unsure whether Infiltration was something the entire Tuffle race was capable of, or just Bebi, but for now I?ll just leave it there.

Anyone who wishes to join as one of the above races may do so, but penalties will occur depending on the current number of people assigned to that species. (Undecided as of yet)

Anyone who wishes to join as a completely unique custom character will have the name of their species added to the list when they join. Even when there?s just one person as that race, the name of it will still be on the list. For example, you can see I added Burter Jr as the only reptilian, and Puar as the only cat. Anyone who wishes to create their own race from scratch can do so, given these boundaries;

- It must be a humanoid race (ie, standing on two legs). (And before you point out that Puar is a cat, he?s not a custom character Tongue)
- You will not start with any unique abilities. No regeneration, infiltration, or any other techniques.
- If the background of your character entails a home planet that?s not on the current list of planets, you can discuss its existence in your roleplays, but never actually go there.

I?ve not added Cell or the Buus to the race list, as I don?t really see them as races with backgrounds or the ability to reproduce. Coming up with a whole race where, in the series, there was none and the characters were the sole example of their kind, seems a little awkward. If we did decide to allow custom Bio-Androids along the lines of Cell, or custom Puttalin-Formed-Humanoids, we?d have to come up with set backgrounds for each.

Now, as for the penalties for joining as a custom character ? this is where I?m still undecided. It could be reliant on a stat penalty (ie, -10 to all stats for each person currently joined as the race you want to be) or your activity/contribution to the RPG. Or a mix of both.

Here?s an example idea:
-25 to all stats for switching characters.
-5 to all stats for each member of the race you?re trying to join as.
- If the switch pushes you under the starting stats, you are not allowed to switch to a custom character.

This would mean you would have to be here for at least a little while in order to become a custom. If you wanted to switch to an already very highly populated race, like saiyans, you?d have to be here quite a while longer to prove your worth.

This is just my rough draft. Feel free to comment.

I like both ideas thus far. I really like an idea where there is a set amount of customs per race. The only big problem I tend to have with customs is most people who try to join as a custom character are only doing it because the character they want is taken.

ie: fagita, roku...stupid ass shit like that. I fell that in addition to what Vi said with her form we should add description and history. I know we don't require these for cannon characters but hear me out. Description is a main point. Since they are a custom they can look like anything they want. This is to cut down on members trying to join as Bejita's long lost twin. We would be picky. However they still have the right to choose what they look like so if they look similar to a character ok, however if for description they describe to the T some one in the DBZ universe, or even worse post a picture of someone from the DBZ universe a swift no will be given out.

Histroy is another way to catch anyone who is trying to weasel their way in using a pseudo DBZ character. With the history it should be completely from scratch, nothing to do with anything relating to the DBZ universe, other then fighting, ki, the everyday norm.

Last I do believe they should have to do a much harder Example Roleplay. They are making a character from scratch here, they better be a damn fine writer. A 300 word sample isn?t going to cut it. You want a custom character you prove you earned that custom.

Those are my thoughts right now, let me know what you guys think of them, maybe we can work it into a more workable version?yea I know I said work twice there.
#11
Videl; did you mean a -25 stacked onto teh regular -25 to make it -50?

SB; so if there are four custom saiyans and I wanna be a custom saiyan. it woul dbe -20 stackedonto the -25?

No, just -25. I was thinking there for a while -30 in its stead, so no one goes overboard and just takes the measly -25, perhaps -30 would deter them more.

It would count all saiyans, not just customs. But if there were four saiyans - correct. It encourages people to be more creative, and go for the lesser-liked races as opposed to just lots of saiyans. Those who are dedicated to getting their chosen race can get it if that's their choice, it'll just take more stats. It separates those who just want a custom just for cool factor and those who really want it.

This is all subject to change, though.

Murasaki, those are good ideas. I think people should have to have their customs completely fleshed out beforehand, not like a standard character switch with just the penalty and name change. They should have to describe their appearance completely, with pictures if possible, and write a background story/personality. This would all have to be approved by staff before the switch is put into motion.

I was also confused about this in your guys' posts. At some points I wasn't sure if you meant penalty for joining as a custom or just switching.

For my idea, you can't become a custom character if doing so will put you below the starting stats. So it's purely for switching if you've already been here a while. I'm not sure about the others' ideas, though.

I wouldn't be for just straight up joining as a custom. I say you have to prove that you deserve a custom first before you come in and upset the balance of the RPG.

If that would be the case perhaps cut the time limit down to 4 months, just to show that the person has what it takes to really deserve a custom. If we allow customs in just straight off the bad, everyone who joins will want a custom character and we'd be the only actual DBZ chars left, which would upset the whole balance of the game in my opinion. I do agree with you there, if customs were allowed straight off, they better do more than a 300 word sample. They need to do it perhaps in stages, like a 3 part roleplay of at least 600 words apeice, just to give a better feel of their character before they hop into the community.

Supes, I am not quite sure I understand your chart on the stat penalties...

Does it mean that for each character that, for instance, joins as a Saiyan, the other custom saiyans have to take a deduction as well? or just for each custom saiyan in the game, the newcomer would have to take a deduction for each of that race?

For instance, say there are 4 custom saiyans in the game. the joinee would take 4x the stat penalty then?

Fuck you, Photobucket.
#17
I think he means that the new person gets the huge deduction. I don't know if I like that as much. While i do think Saiya-jin Custom characters should get a bigger stat penalty it doesn't mean we should punish someone who say joined a month later or something. I do think we should have a set limit though. So there can only be 10 custom Saiya-jins at a time, or as I have stated before, a ratio.

For every custom there can be 5 Saiya-jins to 3 Nameks to 1 changling (to keep it simple)

Once we get five Saiya-jin's we need 3 Nameks and 1 changling before any one can join as a saiya-jin again, if that makes sense.
#18
r = number of PCs already in the race category you're switching to.

(r x 5) + 25 = n.

All stats minus n = new stats.

If the new stats are lower than the minimum starting stats, the switch is not allowed.

Like I said when I posted the idea, this is just an example for the stat penalties. I still want to see what you and Murasaki would change about it. Tongue That's the basic formula, though.

Upon looking back, the line that said '-5 to all stats for each member of the race you?re trying to join as' was a little ambiguous, so I can see where you got confused. It would only affect the person switching, at the time of their switch. Does that explain it for you?

As for the being in the RPG for a certain amount of time issue, if we use the rule "If the new stats are lower than the minimum starting stats, the switch is not allowed," then we won't have to worry about that problem.

Mmmkay. But I still think the time limit is a good idea. Perhaps integrate the two, I think that is what you are getting at. So. We have about 24 hours left, I believe, just ballparking it. I don't think Kirano is going to be putting anything into this, so why not us three start to either put out more ideas or integrate what we already have up and build more off of it?
