So, any of you who have done the Synapse Task Force (and probably anyone who hasn't) is aware of the fact that a Giant Monster clockwork by the name of "Babbage" spawns at the conclusion of the penultimate mission in order to ambush your super group of super heroes. Or does he?!
I recently formed a group of said super heroes in order to take down the villainous Clockwork King and put an end to his tirade of evil. What I was not expecting, however, was that my group would be mainly heroes in the more formative years of their long path down the road of justice (read: noobs). So when I posed the question "who wants to fight babbage?" they were moderately confused. Being the generous, benevolent soul that I am, I kindly explained the details of the upcoming ambush. Many of them were delighted to throw themselves at the challenge of facing the mighty pillar of violent and deceit that Babbage. After a rapid assesment of my team, it became obvious that our power alone would not be enough to stop the rampaging menace of the Clockwork King, despite the mighty sword of truth we weilded. The call went out!
I rose the alarm on the local Badge chat channel and with a series of broadcasts. Heroes unite! It is time we stop this monster once and for all. I gave the coordinates for Babbages spawn ("wtf he's in Skyway, I dunno where!!") and told them we would be finishing our mission as soon as we had freed the innocents from the metallic clutches of the nefarious clockwork. Ho! The last civilian runs free! But what's this? There's no monster in sight, let alone a giant one like Babbage. How could this be!? Quickly consulted my compendium of knowledge on the clockwork (read: CoH FAQ forums) and discovered the source of my mistake. I had told people we were on the wrong mission. Indeed, Babbage would attempt to put a halt to our spree of truth and liberty, but not until we had apprehended the Clockwork Lord (not to be confused with the King, mind you). Though many of my fellow warriors of truth were dismayed ("omgz get it right n0000b fag!!1111") I told them to stand fast, for our team would make short work of the would-be Lord of clockwork.
And of short work he was made! The Lord stood no chance when faced with the hammer of justice. The time was upon us. I had been informed, through a series of carefully worded messages ("k, we r all rdyz1"), that the heroes waiting outside were not only prepared to face this menace, but that they had brought to frontlines additional reinforcements! With so many saviours of the innocent flocking to our aid, there was no way we could fail. Victory would be in the name of truth and love, this day. With a mighty roar we charged into the urban landscape of Skyway City.
To find nothing.
Truely this was a mystery. Babbage was not rampaging through the streets. He was not making a bee-line of evil towards Task Force Cyclone that stood on his master's doorstep... there was nothing. Almost two dozen heroes stood ready to face this avatar of atrocity. Unrest quickly settled upon the group. For upwards of 30 minutes scouts floated about the city. I personally led a small reconnaissance team (of one) around the city twice in an effort to locate Babbage. He never showed. So the question I pose to you all is this:
wtf?!
I was supposed to get to kill Babbage!! Since when did the bastard just decide we wasn't going to spawn!? I had over a dozen people yelling at me over the damned chat. I swear that every time I see his ugly face he will feel my icy fist of vengance!!
EDIT: And least I got the badge for finishing the TF anyway...
