What's the point of this? Light a virtual candle, stop a sexual predator? Doesn't work that way.
Personally, I think this is a stupid idea. There are ways to get rid of those weirdos, and this really isn't it.

I beleive the candles are being used as a kind of petition, and after they reach 1 million they will go to whoever they need to and show them how this is wrong and how we as the people beleive it needs to be dealt with.
Edit: BTW Krillin I do agree with you that this does seem like it may not work, but what if it does, what if by you clicking that button to light a candle, a child in some country is saved. I know the chances are small but still the fact that its possible is what this thing is tryin to prove.
Edit2: I'm not trying to start an argument I just wanted to let you know what I thought, but every man/woman is entitled to his/her opinions

Most likely it's a petition to the government, they need to see what's going on, and need to deal better with it...
I signed...

No. It isn't possible. No child is going to be saved because I click a button. It isn't going to happen. Trying to delude myself into thinking that it might won't change a thing.
Regardless, I really don't think a million buttons clicked petition is going to mean much to the government. But hey, that's just me.

Pessimistic much?

Whilst I highly doubt it's going to stop this happening, it's only clicking a few buttons and signing your name. Not a great deal of effort, and if it'll make any difference at all, it's worth doing. I signed anyway.

I'm not saying the site is morally wrong. I'm saying it's pointless.
But yes. I'd hardly call myself a pessimist. Of course, most pessimists would prefer to call themselves realists anyway.

I also don't believe it will help, but it doesn't hurt to do it.

For all the time you've spent bitching about it not being worth it, Recoome, you could have signed the friggin' petition and been done with it. Ah, logic.

Those two things you said are exactly the same. o_0
Anyway, there's no point arguing this. There's no need to try and justify yourself, just sign it or don't.

What's interesting is that both those who sign it and those who refuse to are most likely not knowledgeable as to how effective petitions have been in the past.
I will say, though, that a multitude have been effective and that many have not. However, simply generalizing all petitions as ineffective is ignorant, not realistic.
Edit: What's even more interesting is the hastiness of response of those who have judged the website without even reading more than a sentence on it. I haven't signed the petition myself, but I'm not about to imply that the creators of the website are hoping that clicking a button will make a sexual predator cease action.

I see no problem in debating the pointlessness/point-ness of signing an online petition. I have not even clicked the link, but either way, both sides bring good points. I have this to say: The realist with hope would sign it, thus I will be clicking the button.

And sitting on your ass infront of a computer screen arguing with other members on rather or not if it will benefit, doesn't help either. If something could be done, would the two of you do it anyways? If you don't care enough about the cause to click a few buttons and sign your name, then chances are you wouldn't.
Caught me. Damn, I keep forgetting how brutally true assumptions can be.
Whatever helps, I signed.

I'm fairly certain that Chris was talkin' 'bout your assertion in the last sentence that he quoted. If he wasn't, then I am pointing it out now.

i don't trust the internet enough to sign up for things like that. Call me paranoid or whatever, but for all we know this could be a hoax and the only thing coming from this is some guy's getting a good laugh out of all the hits he's getting. I mean, it could be real, sure, but I'd rather not get into a debate on child abuse, I was a victim, but if you really want to do something about it, then educate, keep an eye out, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. If you see parents whiping kids in public, tell them to knock it off, I have and boy did I get chewed out, but it was worth it, it stopped the kid from getting smacked around even just for a few minutes.
I'm kind of with Krillin on this one, signing your name on something over the internet isn't going to help much, especially since it's super easy to forge other people's names. I can pretty much assume that nothings coming out of this, though it's nice to see that other people would try. =D
