The difference between a roleplayer and a place holder
#1
I totally agree with everything stated above. If you're having trouble actually RPing, because of a lack of time or something...like Android 16 was, well, that's different. He's NPCed, and plans to be back.

But he's not clinging to a character desperately, and flinging out a crappy post every three weeks so he doesn't lose it.

If you want the character, prove it. But otherwise, give it up to the next generation. You may be a decent RPer, but there are others out there that could be just as good, and I'd love to see some of the important roles from the series getting a little more attention, instead of being shunned and tossed in the corner.

And that's my 5 second rant on MIA dodgers.

Ok, yeah, this was talked about in two seperate topics. I mean, the guys on this forum are great, love 'em, I'd probably enjoy hangin' out with them and stuff, but honestly.

What's the point of someone playing a character when they post three times a month. Sure, they're active and roleplay, but they're not interactive. You can't really develop any relationship with someone in the RP who shows up, posts, and then dissipears for another two weeks. Alot of people are like NPCs that do their own posts once in a while, most of the time being either ignored or controlled by other roleplayers, like I said, an NPC that has a very brief moment of independent activity.

I, for one, prefer roleplaying solo, and nearly always do so unless I'm roleplaying with Twenty. Should I give up my character because I'm not as conducive to interaction with other people as you want me to be? That argument counts for squat.

Quote:I'm not trying to say Kak and the other MIA dodgers are bad people, but they could be doing alot more, and if they don't want to, or can't do it, they should pass the character off like Vegeta did.

Why? Because you want them to? Because there are other people who want the character? You don't seem to understand. This isn't an auction. "Whoever can have the most activity with this character gets it!" As long as they stay within the rules of MIA, they can keep the character. It is totally their prerogative. What they DON'T need is you telling them that they need to pass of their character because you don't approve of the way they're doing things.

Quote:It's not like you're getting anything out of it if you're basicly Waffuru with a twice a week IC post system.

Maybe they are. Maybe they prefer roleplaying in that fashion.

Quote:Oh, you get to hold the role of a popular anime character that would be VASTLY more active and developed in the hands of someone else who has skill.

What the fuck are you going on about? You doubt that Kakarot has skill? You're saying that we should hand over characters if someone comes along that would be more active with them? So, say, if someone comes along with absolutely no life and can write like Stephen King, should we give him the character Kollifum if he asks for it?

Quote:Sure, alot of the RPers that were really active, deep and involved at one time are still great roleplayers, but if they never actually roleplay...that's a moot point.

Don't oversimplify. They DO roleplay.

Quote:Yes, you're within the rules, yes, you're technically alright in what you do, but come on. You're detracting from Chubbs as a whole.

How is it detracting from Chubbs? It doesn't hurt me any if the person that plays Goku decides not to roleplay every fucking day about saving a fictitious universe.

Quote:If you want to keep your character, make full use of them, don't sit on your ass and turn them into a forgotten role that is only remembered because you seizure in the OOC forums. That's my thoughts.

Full use of them defined by you? As in, because they can't roleplay as much as you think they should, they should give up their character. That's shit, Kollifum. Seriously.

Quote:Be honest, if there was no MIA system that made you have a reason to post or you'd lose your character, how often would you post IC? Once a month? Every two? Never? Why keep the character if you'd act the exact same with an account like 15.1 or Waffuru, only without forcing out a single roleplay every now and again?

What does it matter? Perhaps they enjoy the small amount of roleplaying they do, and not much more. Perhaps they just want to stick around for the sake of sagas. It's not like we have a character shortage. There are tons of characters in DBZ that are unclaimed. You're a prime example of this, taking a no-name from some forgotten episode/movie/whatever.

There are only three things in there that really seem to present any real argument.

Overkill, ya?

Quote:I was not saying Kak had skill, I was saying if he was going to give up Kako, he should give him to another roleplayer that has skill as well. Misunderstanding, that's all.

Alright. Good to know.

Quote:I don't think they need to give up the character, only consider it if they're barely getting by, but if they're just sitting around roleplaying on their own never interacting....why are they on the board? I always figured forum Roleplay was about interacting with other people within your, and their, respective roles.

Some people enjoy roleplaying independently. Again, I'm a prime example of this. I love roleplaying solo. The only time I ever roleplay with another person is in a saga, and when I'm with Twenty. Other than that, I prefer having Krillin on his own, pooping about and such. It's simply a matter of personal opinion.

Quote:And I say it detracts from Chubbs because the characters could be adding so much more to the forum. I mean, you'd think Goku would be more involved in things then he is, which is nearly impossible if he shows up once or twice a month. I'm not trying to force them out, I'm not trying to make the staff make them give up their character.

Then, if you're so worried about people adding things to the forum, how about going on a recruiting drive for us and bringing in new members who will roleplay 2000 words a day, every day? That'd add SO MUCH to the forum.

Quote:Vegeta wasn't forced, he knew his character would contribute much more to the board in the hands of someone more active then his own. That was true, and obviously, not the only case in that situation.

The difference is, he wasn't roleplaying. Like, at all. Kakarot is.

Well, actually Krillin, I do. Every other forum I'm on, I have the chubbs image, located at the top of the board, in my sig, with a link to the main site. That's probably four or five other forums with a big fat advertisment from me every time I post.

While most say I can't advertise a site unless I work on it, I do what I can.

I wasn't being serious. I was making a point.

Quote:The main purpose of this thread is for the MIA dodgers to read it, and think about going Vegeta's way. I mean, we can't force them to, but we can present reasons as to why it would be a good thing to do. Of course it has down sides, but it's up to them if they want to give up the characters to make Chubbs main canon characters more active and give more meat to the forum's bones.

I don't think they should be pressured to do it at all. I think it's highly arrogant of you to tell them what they should do with their characters.

If nothing else, you've had a very good attitude through it all, and that is to be commended.

Regardless, I find your supporting arguments faulty, but it is up to the individual MIA dodgers to do as they see fit. If they say 'No', however, I expect the issue to be dropped.

I agree wholeheartdly with Krillin. People have lives outside of Chubbs and the internet. Jobs, friends, relationships, family etc. With me it's all of the above...I'm a full time college student, part time worker, full time uncle(which I call a job since my sister is away at school and I take care of my neice), full time boyfriend, cousin, and now I have to be a father figure to my sisters and the man around the house since my dad died last week.

To say people who take time out of their lives are 'place holders' is kind of a ''bully move''. To me anyone who rps is a great person to interact and roleplay as if they're someone or something in a fantasy world.

And I'm a bit like Krillin, I like rping by myself which is one of the best ways to rp to me. I would like to interact with other characters but only when I feel my character wants it or I want it.

And I guess you can call me a MIA dodger, there's so many times I make plans for Turles but I get sidetracked by real life events, my neice getting sick, girlfriend wants to go out, a crapload of schoolwork or working extra hours...and I think 'ok maybe I should quit rping' but I cant because it's one of the many ways I use to relax and enjoy myself.

I'm sure many others here that are 'MIA dodgers' or rpers feel the same way or go through similar problems.

Nah, I won't be giving up Goku anytime soon.

One thing that I have to say though. It's true that Goku is a popular character of DB, and even the main character- but this isn't DB, this is Chubbs and I'm not the main character so it really shouldn't effect how you or anyone enjoy their Chubbs experience because anyone can have the spotlight regardless of what character they have.

Unless physical appearence is the reason anyone likes Goku.

Well, do you think you'll ever actually become more active? Or are you going to do the thrice a month posting plan for the remainder of your stay?

Nah, I go by the two week plan that way I still get TP. :D

I was totally fine with this thread until I noticed that you used Waff and I as examples. Guess what? We're OOC accounts, we don't roleplay. We used to, but now we don't. We enjoy the community here, which is why we stay as OOC accounts. We're not taking over character spots, we're just here.

The sad thing is, if you up Son Goku up for free on the roster, then you'd have a bunch of people only wanting to play Son Goku because....well, he's Goku. Chubbs has gone beyond the whole sticking to your character the same way they were played out in the anime. People should pay more attention to the RPG if that's all they're interested in. I play KV, probably the most proud member of his race ever in the anime(under assumption of course). But yet my character suffers from low-self esteem, low confidence, depression and mentally pretty damn screwed up. Anyways, I bet you anything the second someone joins as Goku or any other characters, the probability of them lasting as long as the original is slim to none. So in that case, we don't have "MIA dodgers", we just have guys disappear after a certain amount of time.

I honestly can't say I care much for whether Kak wants to leave or stay, or to any of other "MIA dodgers", but it just doesn't seem like you're going to succeed in what you're trying to do.

...wait, what was the point of that? I think we heard Krillin the first time he posted that. Do you have anything of your own to add? Anything new, maybe?

Regarless of whether Kril said that or not, I was going to come out with it. Whether people want to RP by themselves is their own choice nobody elses.

double post.

And that was the part which I felt applied to me.

Then you obviously havn't been hear that long, ignorant one.

I don't consider that flame baiting. Smile

I really don't have alot to say on the subject of MIA dodgers except that i don't really care, I think most of them have earned there spot and if they only wanna RP twice a week, too fuckin bad. Broli and Kak come to mind when i think of MIA dodgers, and they've been here longer than any new member could even consider.

I'm with Krillin on this one, too. Sometimes, you just don't have any creative drive to write sometimes. You know it will come back, but sometimes, you just can't come up with anything, or you're just tired of roleplaying at that time. I'm currently in a position where roleplaying is something I still enjoy, but there are other things in my life I have to, and would rather keep up with. Not to say I don't understand where you're coming from, but it's not fair for the people who have been that character for a great deal of time to lose it, simply because they were unmotivated or busy. People tend to attach to their character after they've developed them enough, because they put parts of themselves into that character. I would NEVER want to give up Twenty, simply because of how much I've put into him. If another person came along, said I wasn't active enough, and tried to take Android 20 and then turn him into something like the cliche "mad scientist" like he was in DBZ, I would be a few levels above pissed off.

I don't think anything in this thread should be taken as flaming. Koli is just attempting to hold a heated discussion over something he feels seriously about, and I respect it as so. I wouldn't exactly tell him to fuck off and die. I don't like when people die.

<s>(I'm going to keep this short)</s>

That said, while I haven't read EVERYTHING in this thead (lack of time on weekends yo) I feel I need to point something out that I saw recurring. The fact that Goku is a main character on the normal site and seems just a cameo here.

I may be wrong... but isn't that a good thing? I mean, in what DBZ universe could you concieve Goku being just another guy, having to act his weirdness out in a way that wouldn't allow "oops, I thump you funny, I win, oh now I'm angry RAWR" And on the other end, we have little time characters like Rad that are up at the top, people normally not there.

Every other DBZ site is like "TOP TEN KI! - Vejita, Goku, Future Trunks, Chibi Trunks, Piccolo, Broli, Gohan, Goten, *RANDOM SAIYAN*, *RANDOM SAIYAN*". Aside from Picc being the only non-saiyan that seems to show up, I don't like the fact that its always those names. People can make any character the way they want here, and they choose not to. Here, Goku is a stronghearted intellegent nice guy that means well, but is not a one sided "I'm going to go train for fun for 60 years even though I can already cockslap the ground to destroy the Earth".

I see your reasoning behind your arguement, and this is an aside to that, but I felt this needed to be brought up. The fact that "They are teh major characters" really means nothing here. I think the characters I like most are people like Akane, Violet, Rad, etc, that take lesser known characters and just completely cause you to love the hell out of the character and appreciate lower known characters more based on seeing people's interpretations of a new more descriptive viewpoint on them.

And this was meant to be short, I swear to god. I'm so sorry.

I mean, A. People might like to Roleplay along side Goku as a character, and then B. Kako as a roleplayer. But it's hard to do so when he's never around. (Same goes for the others, but Kako seems to be everyone's favourite example today)

i just want an explanation on why it matters if people want to roleplay along side Goku? Because heck, i'd love to roleplay along side of half the better known people on this site, but do i have to... no ... So what if someone wants to rp with someone else, they don't have to, and Goku has the right to decline anyone he wants.

What i'm saying is that say Goku was the most active person on this site, and he never rped with anyone besides himself, your arguement would be useless. There are a lot of people on this site who roleplay alone, so the fact that people want to roleplay with someone else shouldn't even matter because no matter how active someone is they don't have to roleplay with them.
