Computer issues

Since I'm not very savvy when it comes to technology, I figure someone else might know what is going on. It's been an issue before, but never this bad. Sometimes when I'm on the internet, all of a sudden everything will stop linking. When I click on links or icons or anything from the menu it won't go to wherever it's supposed to go. Nothing will load, and it'll stick to the page I am most recently at. It'll act like it's going to load and then a few seconds later it will always say "Done" in the little white bar at the bottom, but it's the same page I was already on. When I try to open a new tab, it'll be permanently loading my home page.

But it doesn't just happen to my internet. When it does happen, it happens to my whole computer. No programs will load. If I exit out of Mozilla, I can't get it back. I can't even do a shut down. I have to manually hit the button. My computer's not frozen, because I can move the mouse and open menus, but nothing works. Sometimes if I repair my internet connection it'll help, but not for very long and I have to keep doing it. So I just leave my lappy alone for a day or so and it's fine again.

My first thought is that it's a virus or spyware or whatever. I have Windows XP. I use NOD32, but whenever I do a scan, it says everything is perfectly fine. For a couple of weeks, I would get this little bubble that would appear and say I have an IP conflict with another system, but I didn't really know what to do about it. So I thought maybe someone was piggybacking my system.

I don't know what to do. If someone could help me figure out what my problem is, that'd be great.

Is it playing up right now? How frequent does this happen? It happened to me once or twice but that's it.

I had this same problem before, except mine never went away. It was a pain in the ass. My solution: Restoration Disk



I doubt that's the route you want to go though. =/

Meaning I wipe my whole comp?

Yes. The Restoration Disk wipes out all information on your computer and then restores it to default, as if you just bought it. Not the best route, but I'm cheap.

Of course if you get the opportunity, you can always save your most valuable information and the like on disks or flash drives.

That sucks. I just use a system restore. It undos harmful changes to my computer and restores its settings and perfomance. BArdock you have Windows XP like me. Do a system restore.

Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance. Then you should be able to see the words system restore on the top left hand side of the screen. Click that. Then you can either click restore my computer to an earlier time, or choose a restore point. I recommend you choose a restore point. Click next, and then choose a restore point date. (if you clicked choose a restore point)

Did a system restore, but I wasn't able to go back beyond May, so hopefully that will clear up the problem. I also did a Disk Clean and a Defrag, which lappy really needed. So hopefully everything is all good. In the meantime, this thing is hot as hell, so I'm going to give it a rest.

It didn't work. The problem is still as bad as ever. Any more suggestions that don't involve a restoration disk?

When I get the time, I'm going to library to make sure if it's my computer or internet.

Hmm. If it wasn't for the fact that it happens with your entire pc, I could say that you have excessive timeout issues.

This just sounds like... lag. Thats the best way I can describe it. I guess there is a possibility of it being malware, not sure that's what it is however. Google for ways to get rid of malware, there is a few ways to do it. Specifically there's a two-program combination of doing it. I would tell you the names, but I simply don't remember.

If you know how to do it, try and start your pc in safe mode. It's diff for different comp's, so its not like I could tell you how to do it either.

Try that, if it persists afterwards, I would tell you to get some blank CD's and put music/specific files on them, and wipe your HD.

edit: if all else fails and you dont want to wipe, call your manufacturer's and ask them about it. they probably know something I dont.
