Binoculars, Yay or Nay?

Binoculars allow you to see who is in squares adjacent to your own. Should it stay? Too powerful?

Stay, however it should only be able to see squares N/S/E/W, no diagonal squares.

Yeah, let it stay too. As long as it's one direction once a day.

It's actually up to three uses per day

Yeah, binoculars are cool, but how much diagonal sqaures are we talking here, just one NE, SE, SW, NW of our current position?

I think binoculars are fine.

Yea. It adds a lot more strategy to the game. I remember when XTC was doing DA and we had my sniper rifle to see around us (I think it was the rifle; either way, we were able to do this), and it added a whole new level of strategy to the game, to plot others' movements and foresee possible attacks. We didn't always know what we were doing, and it can give a group (or individual) the opportunity to control the game in a tiny way which, I think, is a big part of DA.

Eight squares around and three looks a day sound b-, no, a-okay.

If the sniper comes back, it won't have that ability anymore. It was a mistake to give two items the same ability

Unlike the GPS, people actually have to move around to get full use of the binoculars. And that keeps most of the unpredictability that makes DA so great.

Like I said in the GPS thread, the binoculars are a tool, not a weapon. I'm sticking by that. Even though my problems with the binoculars are considerably less than my problems with GPS. The GPS is just too powerful. But I agree with Orion. One direction, once a day.

What's wrong with diagonal squares?

One direction a day and no diagonal squares seems so arbitrary. There should be some sense of realism with this.

I would be willing to compromise on 2 times a day

If the Binoculars are being dropped to 2 times, I'd say the GPS should be dropped to once.

One direction a day? Why shouldn't you be able to see all the squares around you?

I'm leaning on 2 uses a day. A use means to see everything around you, including diagonal
