PS1 Emulator troubles

I thought I'd make a seperate thread for this, since I was kinda hijacking the hate thread.

So. I'm trying to play a FF7 ISO/ROM... whatever it's called, on a PS1 emulator. Using ePSXe version 6.0, I managed to start the game, get to the new game menu, but when I tried to start a new game, the screen went black. I've tried changing the video configuration, many different ways, but nothing seemed to be working.

A lot of people on different forums have been telling me to use PSX instead, so I've downloaded that, had to download a seperate thing to get that working too, but that's a different matter... So, I start it up and it asks for a BIOs image, I put in the one I'm supposed to, and the window closes. So I decide to click the file that's already in the BIOs folder, and some pop-up comes up saying 'unhandled exclusion, save a crash dump?'. I don't know what this means, it doesn't sound good, so I keep selecting no.

This is seriously starting to grate on me now. I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me out here.

Most likely your FF7 image is bad or corrupted.

Eh. I'm such a moron. I shouldn't have deleted ePSXe version 6.0. I was trying to download the latest version, 7.0, but it wasn't working, and I thought I had to remove the older version, but it didn't make a difference.

Okay, I'll try and find a different FF7 ISO.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong with the PSX emulator? Maybe I could use it instead of having to download ePSXe again.

You could also get the PC version of FF7. Although you have to get used to playing with the Number Pad, it is still preety simple to play.

Well, I've got PSX working, but it still can't play the opening movie sequence. Must be the ISO. I've tried other ones, but when I extract them, they turn into .7z files, which the PSX can't play.

If, er, anyone knows of a playable FF7 ISO, I would hope you would not pm me with a download link to it. *wink, wink* >.>

If not, I might just try to buy a used copy from Amazon.

Awww man. But it's so old. Why should I have to spend good money on a ten year old game. =[

I know. Bad thing is I'm actually tempted to buy it because I've never played it before...though I got FFX and FFX-2. Buy both of them. Combined they'll run you about twenty-thirty bucks. Gamestop or Blockbuster.

I've already played FFX. And I have absolutely no desire to play FFX-2. None what-so-ever.

OMFG.

This is so ridiculous. I've downloaded THREE different emulators, FIVE different Final Fantasy 7 ISO'S, and I still can not get it to fucking work. What the hell is up with these file types, 7z, .001. What am I supposed to do with these? I've downloaded 7Zip and WinRAR, neither can extract them. I downloaded a FF8 ISO, to see whether it's just FF7 that's being differcult, and it comes out some weird fucking file that the ePSXe can't read. What the hell am I supposed to do here? I feel like smashing my laptop, this is pissing me off so bad.

I've downloaded like, 5 gbs in the last week. Probable surpassed the download limit, which means ultra slow internet for the rest of the month.

It's just like, if there's a way to play it for free, why should I pay for it? Although, to be honest I'm about to just give up.

And wtf, you DO have to pay to use Utorrent.

Does anyone know what you're supposed to do with .7z files. When I download a ISO, it starts as a .RAR file, I'll extract it with 7Zip, which makes it a .7z file, but after that it won't let me extract the .7z file. And no PS1 emulators can play .7z files.

.7z are to be unzipped, just like .RAR. Most likely the ROM is bad (you'll get that a lot on anything after Genesis/SNES) and you need to get another one. That one I linked you to isn't good either, the text box doesnt show in battle, and the music/sound effects continue after you close it (like, indefinitely). But it unzips fine, which is all I wanted to see.

I'll find a working version so you don't have to keep blowing your download limit. Looks like the whole game (all 4 discs) is about 1.3 GB though. Can you download that much? Although, I suppose you could go disc by disc, as the game is 40+ hours. Just download one once you finish the other, hopefully you don't finish it all in a month anyway.

Ok, those problems still happened with the new ROM (I think I got the one you have now), so maybe it's my emulator, or the BIOS. I don't think its the game, and even if it is, I'm at least getting them to run. Try extracting all 12 rar files at once, (hold ctrl and click to select more than one thing at a time), which should give you one rar file. Extract that, then the folder inside, or w/e, I forget the rest. Pretty linear though, and you'll know when it's done.

Try downloading 7zip if extracting just won't work. I did, but I don't think that was why it worked the second time.

Later tonight I'll sign up to a Emulator forum, see if the guys there know what's going on. I'm really just in way over my head, have no idea what's going on. If I just knew how to extract .7z files, I'd be set by now, the amount of different ISO's I have saved on my hard drive. I mean, surely one of them works.

It's weird, like I said to you yesterday, when I extract .RAR files, it turns them in .7z files, and the icon of the file changes from the zipped folder, to a blank sheet of white paper. I wonder what that means.

Ok, I got it working fine. The only problems I was having were related to ePSX, which sucks. Soul Blade works fine on PSX, and FFVII has the battle menu.

If you catch me on AIM I can walk you through it. Really simple. =/

Open WinRAR, go to File > Open Archive and select the 7zip file.
