This is something my cousin sent me from Iraq, I got it in my email box awhile ago and never got around to posting it. Should be something Sam enjoys.
Here I am 0500 wake up call.
Hit the deck 25 more.
Lace my boots and strap down my gear.
0600 locked and loaded.
Fellow brother?s heads are tilted,
Lips firmly pressed together no words need to be spoken.
0700 moving out.
Another day on the job.
Pop Pop sounds of automatic fire.
Blood and cartridges strewn through the air.
Empty clip after empty clip.
Rifle strewn aside.
Side arm drawn more blood and crossfire.
Bunkered down no place to go, there is no defeat and no surrender.
Fellow soldier?s faces set in stone; we know the job through and through.
Field dressings stained with blood, two of our number have paid the price.
But never will they have died in vain.
There we stand our weapons empty.
Surrounded by hostile intentions, I stand my own weapon.
They took two of my fellow soldier's.
Two who stood beside me in three months of hell on earth.
No way are we backing down.
The sound of chopper blades fill the air.
Reinforcements have arrived.
You thought we were hell before.
Now were reloaded and pissed as shit.
Kiss you ass goodbye.
Now I run in formation, grit covered face, sprayed with blood.
Blood stained boots pound the pavement.
Wrappings tugging at wounds, soaking with blood I ignore the pain.
Just another day on the job.
We know the risks and the cost of what we do.
But we do it for the ones who can?t do it themselves.
Here I stand; no here we stand United States Marines.
Dependable to the very last, the elite of the elite we fight so you won?t have too.
So I take my knee and pull the trigger, no remorse for what I?ve been trained to do.
Through thick and thin we won?t pull out until our jobs complete.
We survive to fight another day.
