I'm basically just wondering whether I'd be gimped by buying a lower form than the standard Katchin/Platinum combo. I wanted to buy either Steel or Titanium + Gold, for storyline reasons (it matches the armour of SB's archrival, Zanshin) and I was wondering if it actually matters all that much in terms of fights.
Oh, and feel free for Goku to respond as well, since he actually made up the items. >_>

There aren't any direct stats to quote, but if two people of the same powerlevel clashed with sword, for example, the one with Katchin would be able to break the sword of the one with. say, Steel.
For NPC purposes, there's no real difference.
For PC purposes it would only matter if the PC is directly trying to break the metal. (ie. you bind someone with metal rings)
Having as many metals as we do is a bit superfluous, and it might not hurt to scale back that section of the shop.

One idea is introducing metals with different properties. For example, katchin would be the most hard to break, but that would come at the cost of flexibility. Another metal might be more supple, but weaker. You get the idea.
Or you could just increase the levels/stats required to use the metals. When I got MB, I was already Level 3, meaning I already had access to the full selection. Just my 2p.
For the moment, though, I just want to be able to turn SB into an Iron Maiden from Resident Evil 4. >_> Without gimping him, of course.

Iron Maiden?
Trunks (current Goku) wanted to do something with metal covering his body... it turned into a pretty stupid argument.

If you've played Resident Evil 4, you'll know those creepy ass zombie things which are like giant mounds of regenerating flesh (much like Buu >_>). Iron Maidens are the ones which can make metal spikes protrude from their body. I thought it'd make sense, since Buu's body is putty and all, and he'll be storing the metal inside his body.

That sounds pretty badass. I don't have any problems with it. It'd be a best move, though, right?

I assumed it'd just be doable. >_> Trunks/Rad/justaboutanyoneelsewithmetalbinding have been able to make swords/spines/guns/tendrils/disks etc without Best Moves, so that's what I thought. Basically he'd be making metal spikes and maybe throwing 'em.
The whole iron maiden thing was a tangent, though. My main question was answered by Rad's first post.

If you want to do something more extreme with your metal binding, you'll need to make it a best move. Look at my Strong Arm technique. That's not really that extreme, but I still would have made someone else have that best move before they could do that.

Wait ... so I can't make metal spikes without using a best move slot?

It depends on what you're trying to do. If you're just making spikes, go for it. If you want to, like, incorporate metal into Super Buu's bodily makeup and then have spikes protrud from the pores in his "skin" then yeah, you need a best move slot.
EDIT: Just post what you want to do as a best move and if it doesn't need a slot, I'll letcha know.

For the spikes thing, it would mostly be just him protruding a single spike from his body at once, him then pulling it out and throwing it like a javelin. Description is in my vault under Metal Binding. Once I buy my own metal, he'll be storing it inside his body (as with all SB's items), so when he needs it it'll just seep out from his pores, or if need be (though you might not approve this) create the item he wants within his own body and then making it protrude fully formed as a spike/sword/whatever.
So he could, theoretically, create a katana and then have the hilt poke out from one hand, and pull it out with the other (think what a magician would do with his sleeves, except ... SB doesn't have sleeves, so he just uses his arms >_>). Mainly just for the cool factor. Is that alright?
I'm guessing it would only need a best move slot if I wanted a bunch of spikes to protrude all over his body, creepy regenerator style.

Correct.
