CELL JR

The door slammed behind me and auto locked as I walked into the briefing room. The lighting was dim and all that I could see was a projector set up and pointing at a white blank screen. Sitting next to a projector was a man who I couldn?t make out who he was, all I seen was a large outline of the man?s body. The shadowy figure spoke to me, ?Sit SSgt. McGlynn.? Without hesitation I let out a quick, ?Yes sir!? as I took a seat nearest to me and waited patiently for the lesson to begin.

I didn?t wait long as the projector kicked on and started to warm up and begin. While the projector was getting ready to initialize, this is when the shadowy figure filled me in on what I was doing here. ?You?re here because we have a special mission for you. Whether you like it or not, you?re going to do the mission we have planned for you, so listen up and pay attention.?

Sitting there in contemplation, an image shined onto the screen, it was a picture of Kim Jong-il, and at that instance I knew where this was going. At this very instance I felt like Sam Fisher from my beloved video game of Splinter Cell. I knew that because of my high score on the sniping range and my performance as a sniper overall, I would be ordered to take out this target. It didn?t take long before this assumption would be set in stone as the unknown man said, ?You will be sent solo into hostile territory to take this target out.?

Time goes by as I?m shown through the briefing and it finally came to the end. ?All the things you will need for this mission can be found on the table behind you beside the door. Everything on that table you have already been trained with and know their functions, you are to report to the airstrip in one hour for extraction. You?re dismissed.?

I jumped from my seat and made my way over to the table to eye the equipment given to me to use for this objective, and nothing surprising to say the least. Standard Beretta M9 9mm Semi-Automatic Pistol, 3 pistol cartridges, standard M107 .50-caliber sniper rifle, 1 sniper cartridge, GPS tracking caller, and 3 days worth of food rations. After I grabbed my equipment I suited up and headed towards airstrip trying to avoid contact with any buddies to assure this mission stays a secret and luckily I succeeded that part as before I knew it, I was in the air departing from my base in Sasebo, Japan and flying over the Yellow Sea.

?Go! Go! Go!? that?s all I heard from the aircrew as the hatch in the back of the plane opened up as we were flying right over the sea no more than 30 feet above the water, I jumped out and landed right into the water. So it begins I thought, as I started the swim for the shore.

On the shore, it was obvious that I had to start moving. Stopping wouldn?t be all right as if I fall behind schedule, I won?t get an open shot at Kim Jong-il. I was briefed that he planned to have another march in front of his palace with all of his army marching through for him to eye and see how they?re doing. Who knows when the next march is, but I?m not waiting to see the second one. I started to move.

It wasn?t an easy trek, but luckily the countryside wasn?t filled with people so I didn?t have to dodge as much as I thought. There aren?t many Caucasian fellows in North Korea from my understanding, and if one is spotted, I?m sure they?re reported and people keep an eye on them. That?s the last thing I need, is someone watching me as I put a new hole into Kim Jong-il?s skull. But after a few days, three to be exact, I arrived to the outside line of Pyongyang, North Korea. From there I knew exactly where to go, a parking structure?s roof which I was told would be the best spot to get a view on the deck of Kim?s palace.

Roof of the parking structure turned out to be a good spot after all, so I started to setup. I took out the components for my .50 caliber rifle and started assembling it on the roof, it didn?t take long, and after all, I was trained to assemble it as quickly as possible. Now the hardest part came, the patience game. I took my coat off and threw over me as I lay down in a prone position hoping to give me some sort of camouflage from aerial planes. I would have to wait three hours until Kim Jong-il emerged from onto his deck.

Three hours later, there he was standing at the deck?s railing watching the procession begin. I lined up the shot and changed the scope settings for air and height difference, and I was ready. I looked into the scope and lined it up with Kim Jong-il?s head.

BANG

It was done. Now the truly hard part begun. North Korea will probably go into a shut down mode but since they?re be in panic over Kim Jong-il, I?ll have probably 30 minutes tops before I?d be trapped in Pyongyang. So I dismembered my rifle and was off again, I tried to avoid empty streets hoping for crowded ones with me being able to get lost through the crowd incase anyone eyes me as suspicious I?ll disappear amongst the people and can duck in and out of places. Luckily, I got out with a breeze, I guess they weren?t ready for this type of thing.

Arriving to the shore, I signaled the GPS Tracker and before I knew it, a small speeder raft arrived at the shore and took it out to a carrier where I boarded and headed home. Arriving home nothing seemed out of place, no one was watching CNN about the Kim Jong-il assassination, but I couldn?t figure out why, you think everyone would be like damn, about time he got put down. It wasn?t until I reported back to the briefing room I found out why.

As soon as I walked in all I heard was, ?Was the target destroyed??

?Yes,? I said in a questioning manner. ?Why??

?Good soldier,? the shadowy figure said from the corner. ?We currently have spies seeing if it is true. Reason why is because North Korea doesn?t allow a single outside reporter in and they keep all news within their borders, that?s why no one knows about the death of Kim Jong-il yet. Soon enough the truth will emerge. You might know why my identity is being kept a secret, well; this whole thing is being kept a secret. We don?t want a World War III to begin, hopefully, one doesn?t, until than, you?re dismissed soldier.?
