BUN
The first day of school; usually every high school student?s favorite day of school. Not for fourteen year old Jessica though. She had just left junior high school the year before and now she was being tossed into the ring with the wolves. Ninth grade was every teenager?s most feared year of high school. After being at the peak of middle school they?re demoted right back at the bottom of the food chain. It was when young females would get persuaded into having sex with older men that have really no interest in having a relationship. It was when fellas would have to choose their clique, and choosing the wrong could put him in the brink of hell for the rest of his years at the school. And for those that would survive, they?d be hurtled into the highest rank in later years.
Jessica?s father throughout the summer break, that the girl wished would never end, tried to comfort her. Unfortunately his efforts did not aid her. She was more nervous than ever and prayed countless times that she wouldn?t fuck up one of the most important days of her social life.
The girl finally decided what she was going to wear with only a few minutes left until the school bell would ring. She spent so many days to come to her conclusion of what apparel she was going to present herself to her fellow peers in. ?Yeah, I like this set.? She said as she began to get dressed. ?I am going to so leave a good impression. I hope.? She finished putting on her clothes and grabbed her backpack; her head cocked back to look at the clock on her table. It was 8:30am. ?Oh hell!? She said as she quickly made her way down the stairs of her house. ?I am going to be late!?
Her father, who was grabbing a nice cup of joe in the kitchen looked back at his daughter. ?Have a nice first day.? He shouted as Jessica opened the front door and bolted out. ?She should have kept her mind on the time.? He muttered as he sipped on his coffee; his eyes pried to the newspaper.
As she shut the door shut she ran down the sidewalk. The school was a short fifteen blocks away from her house, and with only a few minutes until the bell would ring, time was of the essence. She would have to use her track speed to get there on time. Those long hours of racing would finally come in hand. She crossed the first block and showed no signs of fatigue as she was nearing the second block. At the current pace it would seem like she would make it to school with a few minutes to regain her breath. Then it happened. She passed by a small alley by the third block on her way to school.
A large sound echoed. The volume was so loud that it could be heard from a few blocks away. Jessica came to a halt by the alley, where a couple of boys were loitering. Though she wanted to run, her curiosity kept her in place. She was eager to know what was going on between the two sides.
?Five stars, motherfucker!? One of the boys said; his apparel almost entirely red. ?Five, five!?
A boy on the other side, wearing a blue bandana raised his hands. ?Six, bitch, six!? He exclaimed as he stuck his hand into his pants. ?Crips boy,? he continued as he then pulled a pistol out of his pants. ?All day every day, bitch.?
Jessica?s eyes quickly widened as she saw the handgun pulled out of the boy?s undergarments. She wanted to flee from the area, but yet again her curiosity forced her to stand as still as a statue. She had to see what was going to happen, for she had never seen something so outrageous.
The boy with a red bandana then walked forward out of their group up to the boy wearing the blue bandana. ?Be, that ain?t nothing. I got me a nine too, be.? He said as he pulled a pistol out of his undergarments as well. ?See, be?? He asked as he swatted the pistol in the blue-wearing boy?s face. ?It ain?t nothing special.?
The apparent crip then put his gun away and neared the blood more. ?What?s up, cuz?? He said as he licked his lips and curled his brows in an angry tone. ?What?s up?? Some of his fellow gang members came forth.
The blood looked away and at his fellow bloods. Then he cocked his fist back and punched the crip in the face, knocking him off of his feet. The other crips immediately jumped the blood, tackling him to the ground. The blood?s friends also joined in skirmish that had taken place. All of the ignorant boys scuffled around in the fight.
Jessica continued to look onward at the fight, anxious to see who would come out victorious. She was well aware that her life was put in danger by hanging around to see the conclusion, but she no longer cared.
Finally the blood gang associates pulled out his pistol and pulled the trigger. A loud sound echoed and blood immediately spewed from one of the crip members. Jessica?s eyes widened as she saw the crip fall to the ground in pain, holding his abdomen area. He had been shot in his liver. His fellow gang members ceased to fight and went to the aid of their friend, but it was too late. He had died.
One of the crips looked back at the bloods. ?You motherfuckers!? He exclaimed as he pulled his handgun out and began to unload on the blood members.
Several of the bloods dropped upon impact and rolled on the cold ground of the alley. Jessica, seeing enough violence finally decided to flee the scene. She had already missed her chance to be on time and now she could be a victim of a gang war. She once again used her track speed and dashed down the block, this time not even trying to pace herself. Her adrenaline was pumping like never before as she turned the corner and continued to dash to school, praying that she wouldn?t get hit with a bullet as she escaped.
Her eyes finally could picture the large building ahead of her. It was Edwin?s Technical Institution, her high school. A fragile smile creased her face as she reached the steps of the school and ran up them, immediately opening the doors and running into the building. Though she was late, she was still alive. That?s all that really mattered.
