Weapons can alter stats like that. The knife, for instance, raises attack speed to make up for its low power and pole weapons generally have high counter/block rates.

The stone hammer is full of win. 83 damage hits rule. I'd link the brute, but I made like 30 of them and don't feel like going through all of them. Only thing better I've gotten so far is the shuriken. Hate that that guy got another wep though, likes tossing away the shuriken for...a knife

I've gotten chain killed by too many people with pets at this point. Its like one of my characters literally stood still and didn't take a single turn the entire fight, and the guy didn't two shot me or anything. His pet attacks, then chains three attacks to it, then he attacks, chains FIVE attacks, then his pet again, then him, then his god damn pet, then he pulls a weapon, hits me with it, then throws the weapon at me, his pet attacks again, then he pulls another weapon, pet attacks, he rushes and attacks again, dead. All I did was dodge or block his shit.

I had it done to me once during one of those shadow charges. Bitch basically one shotted me.
I've also encountered some fairly weak ones before.
Those god damn bears are still being retarded. More people have them, and I've lost to every single one of them hands down. I never even bother to use my net when fighting them, and half the time the player has a club or flail to work with it.
I have been thoroughly enjoying Thief on the characters that have had it though. Now if all the characters that had a knife would stop throwing every single weapon and then trying to take on the guy with a whip or flail with just a knife. That knife needs to be deleted or something. Its like their weapon of choice. That and my thieves tend to ignore the opponent with the whip or whatever and insist on running in to punch them for 4 points.

bears are the most rare kind of pet. they're also the most powerful for single hits and have the most HP.
wolves are still just as, if not more, dangerous at low and mid levels, though.
