Oh. My. God.
I'm not a Trekkie, but this movie has made me want to become one. It was outright amazing.

If you still have your balls, I assume that's the consolation prize. Vad usually doesn't fuck around.

So I had some time to settle my boner down and straighten the movie out in my mind lemme talk about some negative points, since I feel its gotten the required dick sucking so far.
BIG SPOILERS Nero has some pretty weaksauce motivation, powered by an almost laughable leap to conclusions to sit in one spot for 25 years and wait for Spock. And despite having a drill and magic black hole juice he never felt like that much of a threat. He was just a cardboard antagonist for Kirk et. al. to earn their stripes against. Pacing was scattershot and certain points lacked cohesion. Many plot points felt rather... convenient. Reg. Spock's reason for having Kirk not tell Past Spock is a shining example. Uhura? Moar liek Uwhorea. No seriously though, Spock/Uhura felt straight up tacked on and pointless. The flanderization of Kirk was not a big deal, but his rapid promotions were to me. Why did Pike make him first officer? Because he idolized his dad? Up until that point Kirk was an arrogant jackass who had only proved he had potential that needed tempered by experience. It was irresponsible and again, too convenient. Basically It felt like a star trek fanfiction. That about sums it up right there. That said, I stand by the fact it is a thoroughly enjoyable movie and I would see it again. ![]() When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

Interestingly, they considered using the guy that plays Ando on Heroes for Sulu instead of John Cho, but the Heroes crew didn't want to be short two characters to the same schedule over the few months. Both Ando and John Cho are Korean/American as well, so they had to think of using that to portray a Japanese man, until George Takai informed them that the intent was to represent all of Asia in general with his character.
Its interesting to me since the guy playing Ando speaks more Japanese than Hiro himself, who actually is Japanese.

Masi Oka would've been an . . . interesting Sulu. I could see it, but . . . I dunno if I could stop seeing Hiro long enough to see Sulu. Not real sure if he could have, either, but meh.
James Kyson Lee I could totally see, though.

Keeping in mind that Masi Oka looks entirely different without his glasses and really speaks more English than he does Japanese, when off camera. He actually has a fairly strong American accent from last time I saw something involving him ooc.

Better than The Dark knight and I loved that movie. I only had two problems with the movie. Kid Kirk; what a douchebag. And driving the corvette off the edge? What was the point of that? I know they were trying to show Kirk as being a rebel from a young age but they could have done it better. The whole scene was almost trivial, IMO. Other than that, it was the best movie in a long time.

From what I gathered, it seemed to me that Kirk's stepdad was a dick, and probably beating him or something. Kirk took the one thing that he knew would hurt his stepdad back and destroyed it.

Think about it: you're a kid, your stepdad is a douchebag that only cares about his car. Remove the competition.
05-12-2009, 08:00 PM
That's exactly what it was. I mean, literally right before he swerved off to do that, his dad contacted him over the phone and was telling him off and threatening him if he got a single scratch on that car, and he hung up on him.

Either way I figure it could have been done differently. But other than that I loved the movie. Makes my top ten.
