No way, man.
I'm paying whatever the hell I want for Fire Snake.

Fire Snake was awesome. It was the one that destroyed lands when it died, right? From Portal.

Yessir.
Waff and me and a couple other people were playing a game of magic. I drop a Fire Snake and then, a couple turns later, my brother walks by and is looking around the table and is suddenly like "how did you pay for the snake?" I definitely just ignored half the casting cost without realizing it.

I bet they didn't notice that you had Cheatyface in play on the other side of the table either.

Yeah. I totally remember that Fire Snake. You cheating bitch.
Actually, I have 2 decks that are standard-legal, and 1 that could be if I took out 1 card. But it would make me sad, because it's a really neat card.

I enjoy not having to choose which mana type I want to tap it for. I just get both. But if I really needed the deck to be standard, i could replace it.

So every time I go to Target, I always look at the MtG cards, and usually buy a pack or two. Today was no different.
I just pulled an Eye of Ugin. Can't wait for the Rise of the Eldrazi set to come out so the card becomes way more useful.

Traded my fifth Jace last night for a foil Iona, 3x Celestial Collonade, and a Day of Judgment.

That's a pretty sweet trade.

I was very hesitant to come off my other Jace, given that they are on the rise again (50 each again, I hear), but I couldn't turn down the deal given that it gave me a bunch of stuff for the T2 UW Control deck I'm building. I had an Iona already, but a foil one? Couldn't pass that up, its pretty.

I share in your adoration for shininess.

I don't get it. How can a deck not be legal?
Why would they give you cards you can't use?

Depends as a format. Just like cars or wrestlers have to fit the bounds of what the competition is about. Like there's a difference in "street legal" and "track legal", or varying degrees of weight limits in wrestling.

Standard tournament rules only allow a limited number of the more recent expansion sets to be "legal." So, if people want to continue to be competitive in tournament play, they basically need to continue buying the expansion sets as they're released.
Of course, that's only for the most common format of tournament play, and only matters if you actually care about being in tournaments.

This is the workings of my strange mind and its deck-building abilities. It's a BG deck, with all black creatures (almost all vampires) and a mix of green and black spells. It's done fairly well so far, but I would appreciate any tips. My collection is growing, but I don't really have the finances to go buy things like full playsets of Mythics or anything like that, but I might be talked into buying a few cards to supplement the deck.
NOTE: I'm planning on taking this deck to FNM, so keeping it Standard-legal is what I need. Thanks.

The absolute best advice I can give you for that deck is fewer one ofs, more consistency.

Same.
If I were planning on building a tournament deck, I would rather have 3 copies of fewer cards than a wider variety. Figure out exactly which cards you need to drop, in what order, and then only put in stuff that supports that.

Take 2. There are still a few singles, but I still want them in there. However, were I to change some, I would probably remove the "Regeneration"s and buy some more savage silhouette, and I wouldnt mind some more blood tributes and urge to feed. I could probably also take out disfigure, but I like it because it's a cheap -2/-2.

I would take out Tomb Hex before Disfigure, but that's more personal preference. Between the Growths, the Vines, and the Groundswells, you have plenty of ways to pump up your creatures. Weakening other creatures probably won't be so necessary.
I wouldn't suggest adding more than one more Blood Tribute, at most. The first one is usually really helpful, but after that, I don't see it being worth the cost.
I'd probably drop the Tomb Hexes and pick up more Urge to Feeds. Even if you don't use the "tap a vamp for a counter" effect, it's still half the price and still -3/-3 to a creature.

2nd
It's not like you don't have any vampires either.

Yeah. I want more urge to feeds. But I don't have any more at the moment. I'll see how much the card shop is selling them for, and if I don't like their price, Coolstuff isn't too expensive.
I originally had the disfigures/tomb hexes in there because I didn't have any doom blades, so i was using them for weak creature destruction. But now that I have the doom blades to maximum, i could lose one of them.
