Looks great so far, only qualm is button mashing. No longer press x to attack and he attacks continuously. You have to keep pressing x. But it feels better than DW, almost like a controlled button mashing is necessary. Regardless, the ability to stop attacking instantaneously lets you switch skills faster.

Dragon Age! - Sophia - 03-09-2011

I bought it today. I had to trade in four other games to do so.

I won't be able to play it until this weekend. XD

Dragon Age! - Super Buu - 03-09-2011

I was wrong. It unlocks friday in the UK =(. It's retarded that I already have the game downloaded but have to wait for it to unlock because of arbitrarily releasing it later here.

As for the button mashing, those of us with the PC version don't have to deal with that. *smug*

For those of you who, like me, can't import your DA:O file or just want to change the decisions you made, here's a thing so you can make a custom imported save file: http://mod.gib.me/dragonage2/savegen-1.0a.zip

I've been reading the hate, hate, hate things in the like/HATE thread and I wanted to post here, where it's safe, that i'm playing this on the PS3 and am having a lot of fun. Not too far yet with work and life and all, but enjoying it. The graphics look fine on my TV. I have no problems with the new combat system, even though I complained earlier about the button mashing. Fights are much, much faster this way, and I'm not sure how I feel about that though. It makes it seem easier, but my health is dropping faster too, so it's mostly the same. I like the dialogue options. I read somewhere on here that they're less expressive but I really don't think so. You still get 3-4 conversation options and branching conversations based on certain responses. Now it's more organized though with the nice, humorous, charming, combative, direct, etc. symbols next to certain options or whatever.

two things i don't like: I don't like that you can't really customize your party's armor. Their weapons are totally interchangeable with anything you find, except for one, talkative party member. But almost every bit of armor I find is restricted to (First name) Hawke. It's so annoying because I'm finding all this bad ass armor that's meant for mages or warriors and I'm a rogue and I can't utilize it, not even on my other party members. Dumb. Though the game mentions they have 'certain' armor upgrades. Where Bro?

Another thing I do like, this game encourages stat distribution. As a rogue I went immediately for Dex and Cun, but in this game that'll only get you so far, unlike the last game. Health in the last game was tied to level gain, in this gain it's solely tied to constitution. If I want more than base health i need to life con, something i never did in DAO. Also fortitude is linked to strength, something that is useful, and stamina is linked to willpower - so if i want my stamina pool lifted off base, something that I need for more advanced skills and abilities, I need to work in the willpower pool. I think that's nice so I just don't plow ahead with my +2 Dex +1 Cun every single time.

Dragon Age! - Super Buu - 03-11-2011

I'm pretty sure Con and Will were the only way of raising HP and Stamina in Origins too. Dunno what game you were playing =P

I agree on the expressiveness of the dialogue, I think it's fine and really not that much changed from origins. I haven't come up to any huge decisions yet, but I am not just going top-right top-right top-right like Mass Effect. There's enough granularity to satisfy me.

I gotta say, I think from a lot of what I'm reading about 'dumbing down' the combat, people just need to turn the difficulty up. They readjusted the baseline difficulty, so most people that completed DA:O on normal should probably start on hard. That's what I've done, and I've had to utilise a lot of pausing and micromanaging already early in the game to stay alive.

Dragon Age! - Kaden - 03-11-2011

Do you agree with Trafford about combat moving at a faster pace?

I picked up my DAO game about a week ago and that was one of the things that always got to me. Combat felt very... I don't know. Heavy? Thick? Sluggish? Something like that. It wasn't a big deal most of the time, but slogging through fight after fight wore on me real quick.

It's entirely possible that I just need to turn the difficult down, but y'know. >.>

As a rogue, you don't need that much stamina as they are the only ones which regain stamina by just hitting and thusly, on hard difficulty, ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO'LL DO ANYTHING TO A BOSS PAST THE FIRST 10 SECONDS. >_<

The armor thing is absolutely correct; you cannot change their main piece of armor, only accessories and the objects they hold in their hand. There are available armor changes for them however, but it's sort of like ME2 where you find different suits through quests. I do not know if the suits of armor has different stats yet.

also, regarding the first real step of the main quest (financial part)
XD

It's not that bad, really. It took me a few hours, but I didn't feel like it was ridiculous.
I've read reviews on this game, and I don't really understand what they're talking about in terms of plot. Granted, I haven't really done much, let alone beaten it, but I didn't think Origins had a particularly great plot/ending. Hell, I don't think the Mass Effect plots are THAT great. <.<;; I only care about Bioware games because of the sub-plots and character development, anyway.

Do people really play these games expecting an epic main plot?

Kaden Wrote:Do you agree with Trafford about combat moving at a faster pace?

Yeah, for better or worse it's much much faster. I'm of the opinion that it is better.

The only way I can see that the combat has been 'dumbed down' as people have been saying is that there are much less abilities. But DA:O had a lot of redundant abilities that did the same thing in a slightly different way (especially those sustainables, jesus). In DA2, each ability feels a lot more useful. They've reduced the breadth but increased the depth. Then they gave it a shot of adrenaline for good measure.

This is all early days, of course, but basically my opinion is to ignore the 0's and 10's from people who think everything is either incredible or shit, a mindset which this game has apparently invoked full force. It is nowhere near perfect but it's nowhere near terrible.

Dragon Age! - Alexander Trafford - 03-11-2011
Yeah the 50 sovereigns is basically nothing, and I'm enjoying the side quests in and around Kirkwall. There are a ton of them too, with some that aren't brought up to you and you just have to find. And I've had some tough decisions. Whether or not to kill the Magistrate's son being one of them O_O. But the dude was bat shit insane. I'll finish every sidequest/Varric's rumor quests/quasi main plot quest before I go on the expedition anyway. If there even is one.

I'm using Hawke, Merril, Beth and Aveline (sp.?) right now. Rogue scrapper (user control mostly), Mage damager, Mage supporter/healer, and Warrior/defender build respectively. Bossing out on hard. Next play through nightmare necessary. The only hard fight has been the Dragon in the Bone Pit. A quest I got through the smuggling chick i worked for for a year, she leaves you letters in Gemlen's shack (idk if the Mercenary start does the same and if they're the same quests?)
Just got it for Xbox. I'll let you know how the game is when I beat it on Sunday >.>

GOALS FOR MYSELF!

Dragon Age! - Rem-13 - 03-12-2011

I wonder what the like/hate line is between console players and PC players. This seems much more console friendly than the first, which as a member of the PC gaming master race is not a good thing.

Dragon Age! - Vad - 03-12-2011

I agree. This game is really friendly on the the Xbox.

Dragon Age! - Alexander Trafford - 03-12-2011

Dislike: Similarities between most areas and caves. Every cave I've been in is a subsection of one larger layout, with different areas blocked out in each but they have the same basic design.

Dragon Age! - Alexander Trafford - 03-12-2011

Like: Decisions are becoming more difficult. The difficulty of your decisions is affected by your party, they seem to pipe up more often than in DA:O (with the exception of Alistair).
I'm keeping a Hawke, Alivene, Beth and Fenris party right now. Which is making the decision really difficult. Avilene is basically a do-gooder, even if you have to break laws. The problems come with Beth, a mage, and Fenris, a cat who hates mages. There are a lot of side quests that have to do with the status of mages right now.
Dragon Age! - Vad - 03-13-2011

<3 this game so far!
Isabela is my queen <3 No idea what people were talking about when they said your sister is the only hot female.
Dragon Age! - Tyr - 03-13-2011

Keep her in your party and the chat alone from her will start to make you realize Beth still wins that.

So, deep roads expedition time, on hard difficulty:

Yeah I'm actually liking Isabella more than I expected. The conversations between her and Bethany are entertaining.
One of the few things I've liked about this one was the stone wraith fight. That was awesome, even if my WoW instincts prevented me from getting hit by his red explodey crap. Awesome fight
