Profession Changes - Alexander Trafford - 08-18-2009 After so many comments you can't read older ones anymore. For instance, if the chatbox only records 10 at a time, before you can't scroll down far enough to read them anymore,if something important is said, then Jack types in 11 dumb words because he is an idiot, then i log on, i wouldn't be able to see the important thing because it was "pushed" out of the chatbox by the limitation of the scrolling tool. It made perfect sense. And he's right. Profession Changes - Sage - 08-18-2009 Hey. HEY! THE ARCHIVE STORES EVERY CHATBOX COMMENT EVER RECORDED. JUST SO YOU KNOW. Profession Changes - Belle Hibiki - 08-18-2009 I get why it's liked and shit, I just think it's dumb that I could level up to max rank as an "Adventurer", then somehow start earning shit-tons of money as a world-class cook, bricklayer or musician. Does not make sense to me in the context of the terminology we use. Profession Changes - Kaden - 08-18-2009 I can appreciate that. In the end, though, it's just a label for the mechanic. Profession Changes - Ander - 09-27-2009 This thread gets a bump because we also made an additional change, but forgot to include it in the initial announcement. Due to the changes of the system, it was decided that "jack-of-all-trade" professions would no longer be allowed, in order to preserve longevity. People get paid the same either way, so in order to level up, you need to use your actual profession. Once you're at Level 5, you can do whatever you want, but to get to that point, you need to stick to a single course. "Jack-of-all-trade" professions (also known as "freelancers," "temps," "mercenaries," or any similar name) are professions that allow people to do multiple types of job under the umbrella of one moniker. So if I were a Freelancer, I could level up in one quest for delivering a package and level up in another quest for killing someone. You can still call your profession whatever you like, but you must classify it for a specific task. For example, if you were a Mercenary, you'd need to specify whether you were a Mercenary who killed somebody, or a Mercenary who protected somebody. The choice of the name is left to the member for personal flavor. For anyone who currently has a "jack-of-all-trade" profession, or a profession that is vague or not clearly defined, you will need to describe what it is exactly that you do, or pick another one. For anyone who needs to change their profession, you will get a free switch with absolutely no penalty to your rank. Profession Changes - Belle Hibiki - 09-27-2009 Well. Shit. Profession Changes - Dehan - 09-27-2009 So we can keep the term 'freelancer', but when we're doing a job we have to specify it in the job quest post or in our stats itself? I ask because I plan on having Othello do a bunch of odd jobs that may not be related to each other. Profession Changes - Tyr - 09-27-2009 Reckon he's saying it's fine if you're a mercenary, but you gotta put limits to what you're being hired as. Most traditionally 'Mercenary for hire in the field of <x>', you can just come up with a name for it. Profession Changes - Vad - 09-27-2009 Cerion Wrote:Reckon he's saying it's fine if you're a mercenary, but you gotta put limits to what you're being hired as. Most traditionally 'Mercenary for hire in the field of <x>', you can just come up with a name for it. He's saying that you can be a mercenary (in a sense), but can't name your profession "Mercenary" and let it cover everything from washing cars to killing people. If you're being hired to kill people, it's Assassin/Bounty Hunter. If you're being hired to lead troops, it's Officer. He's saying that you need a specific task for your profession title. Profession Changes - Dehan - 09-27-2009 ...so Freelancer is good or bad? Profession Changes - Vad - 09-27-2009 Just naming it Freelancer? Bad. Quote:"Jack-of-all-trade" professions (also known as "freelancers," "temps," "mercenaries," or any similar name) are professions that allow people to do multiple types of job under the umbrella of one moniker. Quests have nothing to do with your profession, but you want money for them anyway. If you're a bricklayer and you want zeni for assassinating a head-of-state, call it a Quest. Jobs are the quests that are part of your profession and count towards increasing your Rank. If you're a Bricklayer and you build a wall, call it a Job. Profession Changes - Mal Nova - 09-29-2009 So... How about Mercenary(Assassin/Retriever)? Profession Changes - Ander - 09-29-2009 I'm assuming a "retriever" is someone who brings their target back alive. In that case, I'd think it was more of a "bounty hunter," where you either kill them or capture them. I'd be fine with that, so long as you mean what I think you mean. Profession Changes - Mal Nova - 09-29-2009 Well, the two jobs I've done thus far, have involved Nova, some how retrieving something. Unless a bounty hunter can be paid as a bounty hunter to retreive things as well as capture their foes dead or alive... Profession Changes - Belle Hibiki - 10-01-2009 Well, obviously my old title "Adventurer" isn't going to cut it anymo'. One of the ideas I had (which was bandied about briefly in the ChatBox but was not confirmed, IIRC) was making Belle's "job" revolve around defeating evil monsters or people, and that made me start asking questions. Under this new system, we're obviously not allowed to have a 'catch all' unlimited job breadth, but how narrow would it be? Ex., presented with a list, which of these would you say is the 'limit' for how much a profession could cover? - Unlimited. Anything goes as long as you can at least tenuously tie it to the job. (Old 'catch all' professions.) - Winning at something. (Martial Arts competition, farting contest, bake-offs all fall under this.) - Winning at something against a clearly defined opponent. (As above, only there must be a clear antagonist.) - Defeating an opponent through direct or indirect conflict. (Either by breaking them in two, making them surrender, or subverting their reason to fight you altogether.) - Defeating an opponent through physical contest. (Limited scope. Only one area of contest 'counts'.) - Defeating a clearly evil opponent through physical contest. (Limited scope. Only one area of contest 'counts'. Only one type of enemy 'counts'.) In this new system, where would mods expect jobs to fall in their scope? Edit: Before anyone points it out, I realize that a number of the entries on the list are superfluous because Ander's already stated that a merc, for instance, would need to decide whether he wanted to protect people or kill people, but I decided to include them for the sake of a more complete spectrum. Profession Changes - Kaden - 10-01-2009 Belle Hibiki Wrote:- Winning at something against a clearly defined opponent. (As above, only there must be a clear antagonist.) Somewhere in there. I, personally, would say the closer the "Defeating" option then better, but it kind of depends on the specifics. Profession Changes - Psyren - 10-17-2009 Well Then can someone change my job profession to Pilot then. But i do have a question. If my profession is lets say Pilot. Do i have to specify what kind of pilot like Piloting a jet liner picking up people or dropping them of. Or even pilots aircraft and space craft for combat purposes. OR as a pilot is combat and ferrying under the same category? Profession Changes - Vad - 10-17-2009 EDIT: Yeah, you'll need to narrow the field of what you're doing as a pilot. Profession Changes - Psyren - 10-17-2009 Tactical Combat Pilot Please and thank you. Basically meaning my job is to pilot any form of aircracft in combat situations. |
