Virginia Tech shooting - Jeice - 04-17-2007 See exactly. People like that shouldn't be able to interact with other people. Virginia Tech shooting - Aero - 04-17-2007 Yeah, this really shocked me. At least it wasn't a white person. I'm tired of white people being the stereotypical school-shooter and all. Asian. Take that black people. Switch up your stereotypes on us. Now. Yeah. Now. Anyway, my prayers and thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims. Virginia Tech shooting - Raditzu - 04-17-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Waffuru I haven't heard anyone talking about a history of mental illness. The closest thing anyone has said is that he had written some disturbing stories that were sent to a school administrator earlier this term. Virginia Tech shooting - Vegeta - 04-18-2007 Quote:"A government official told CNN's Jeanne Meserve that a note has been found indicating Cho showed anger against "rich kids." Virginia Tech shooting - Jeice - 04-18-2007 You know what also sucks...he killed himself, so no type of justice can realy be done, I mean if I were the parent of one of those victims I would personaly kill the person responsible. Even if that meant me going to jail. Maybe that sounds a little...however you would like to put it, but its how I feel about the matter. Virginia Tech shooting - Vegeta - 04-18-2007 An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. --Mahatma Gandhi I think there never could be justice in this matter. There is no punishment harsh enough for these crimes. Virginia Tech shooting - Aqua - 04-18-2007 I'd gladly go blind if it ment avenging my loved ones. -Aqua Virginia Tech shooting - Jeice - 04-18-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Aqua Virginia Tech shooting - Bojack - 04-18-2007 What about the parents of the guy that killed himself? They lost a son that day too. It's just all a fucked up scene. These people are never devil spawn, they are always mentally ill and the victims are always innocent (though some of the guys from Columbine were bullying jerks, I'm sorry). My sympathies go all around. EDIT: Not saying the 'jerks' deserved to die, nobody does. Just, they shouldn't have been asses day in and day out. Virginia Tech shooting - Aqua - 04-18-2007 No, my sympathy might go all around if the shooter had 31 sets of parents. And if he had been killed 31 times over. Or if he had been struck down in innocence. He was an evil person. Anyone who kills innocent people has something wrong with their mind, that isn't an excuse. I hate it that I live in a day and age where people enable fuck bags like this by saying "he was ill. he got picked on. his parents ignored him." I guess Hitler and Atilla the Hun were alright guys they just lacked the proper medication. Christ, he systematically killed 31 people, and gunned down several more. If you have sympathy for him and his parents... wow.... Virginia Tech shooting - Pigero - 04-18-2007 The World has problems. This is the second gunshooting that has occurred in my life in the past year. The First was Shane Halligan at Springfield High School. A 5 Minute Drive from my High School. It's a Shame. Virginia Tech shooting - Jeice - 04-18-2007 Honestly, if I were in the position of those parents, I would probably take my anger out on the parents of the person responsible for my child's death...thats just me. Just cause you are bullied doesnt mean bring a gun to school and start shooting, I know that is not what you meant but I'm just saying...it was no excuse for their actions whatsoever. Oh and Aqua, from what I understand Atilla the Hun wasn't all that bad at all...I mean he was ruthless and killed innocent people, but what leaders from that time didn't. I dont want to get into that, I'm just saying, I watched a documentary on him and he was a relatively good leader. Hitler on the other hand I agree with that example 100%. As I've said before, people are quick to jump over the fact that people are crazy and look for a deeper reason of why they did it. It shouldn't matter what the motive is, the only thing that should matter is that it happened. I'll stop my rambling now .
Virginia Tech shooting - Tapion - 04-18-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Jeice What would that accomplish? They didn't kill your child, and taking out your frustrations on them certainlly wouldn't bring your child back. Quote:Originally posted by Waffuru Virginia Tech shooting - Jeice - 04-18-2007 They would be the closest thing to the kid, I understand they had nothing to do with it but...I donno I know what you mean though. And that quotes bullshit, no offense Waff, but if someone does something to you, you either do the same or worse to them...thats my philosiphy, and I know how it sounds but...oh well. Virginia Tech shooting - Aqua - 04-18-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Tapion While that is true, it doesn't mean that if the shooter had lived he should not have suffered the death penalty or a similar punishment. I agree that punishing the shooter's parents wouldnt really solve anything (unless they were guilty of some form of negelegance which would have it's own relative punishment). However, an eye for an eye doesnt entail everyone go on a killing spree. It means a punishment equal to the crime. Virginia Tech shooting - Raditzu - 04-18-2007 Gandhi was wrong. But regardless, that quote doesn't really apply here. Gandhi was speaking about vengeance. Jeice was talking about justice. The two don't equate. Virginia Tech shooting - Tapion - 04-18-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Raditzu Justice is making sure someone gets what they deserve for their actions(whether positive or negative). Vengeance is going above and beyond that for no other particular reason but to attempt to make yourself feel better. Quote:Originally posted by Jeice I've got no problem with the shooter being punished for his actions, but going after his parents(who we have no proof of any wrong doings by them yet) or dealing out harsher punishments then necessary is just wrong. Yes, the shooter should have been killed for what he did. But what Jiece is talking about, and what I have a problem with is saying that punishment should go to a point beyond what the crime merited(in this case yes, he deserved what he got, but I'm talking about in general here). Virginia Tech shooting - Vegeta - 04-18-2007 Cutting off someone's legs, then setting their house on fire and watching them drag their bloody stumps out isn't justice. That's vengeance. Justice is supposed to be fair and unbiased, Jiece was not talking about that. Virginia Tech shooting - Jeice - 04-18-2007 I suppose, that in search of justice, it may step over the line and in to vengance. I dont care what people think of what I said or how they interprit it, its my opinion, and that opinion is based off of anger I would feel if someone senselessly took the life of my child. Virginia Tech shooting - Videl - 04-18-2007 They said the kid never talked, that they knew him as the "question mark kid" because he always refused to sign his name on tests and papers and stuff... Honestly, what does it matter what his motive was? it happened. he snapped and killed innocent people and then killed himself. there can be no justice nor vengeance in this situation. the person who committed the crime took himself out, took a coward's way out. instead of focusing on the why's and how's and what if's, people should be focusing on the victims and their families and doing things to prevent this from happening again on another campus or facility. it could happen anywhere... but that's just my opinion. anyways, i'm out to go see my hokies that just got home today after the convocation at tech. i'll relay well wishes and sympathies from all of y'all. |
