It is a series ("The Sword of Truth" series), but each book can stand on its own. They're all within the same continuity but each deals with different things, except for the last three, which is meant as a trilogy. I'd still recommend reading them sequentially, though. There are 11 books total.

In happier news, I bought Wizard's First Rule today on a buying spree because evidently I'm screwed PC-wise until insurance calls. Apparently my PSU was fucked and decided to fuck up my PC.
Also bought the latest of Skulduggery Pleasant, The name of the Wind, A Madness of Angels, Novice & Magician's Guild (the two latter are part of a trilogy and I'll get the last book and another trilogy (The Night Angel trilogy) later this week)
I just finished the Skulduggery Pleasant one and it was yum.

Entire Sword of Truth series is fantastic for anyone that picks it up. The last one I read was Naked Empire, book 8 I believe, and it was the most recent at the time. I need to read the Chainfire trilogy.

The last time I read anything not manga I was completely insane and read nothing but Charles Bukowski. And if you've ever read Charles Bukowski, you can understand why I'm calling myself insane.
Anyways, I'd kind of like to read a good ol' novel now. I'm into space, drugs, Hello Kitty, and sometimes Y. I have no idea what I mean by that last part.
TL;DR Help me find an interesting, non-manga book to read.

I can accept that if you haven't read the books. I personally think there are some parts of it that are horrible. Goodkind was removed from the project very early into it and he wants nothing to do with it; they make extreme changes that have no logical point behind them. It got to a point where some episodes were spot on and some literally destroyed the fabric of the book's existence.
To use a Wheel of Time example, imagine if, after Rand was introduced and normal stuff happened a bit, we discover that the entire issue regarding the male side of the Source has been removed, and there are males all over using the power. The entire history regarding why Rand is important, why this point is a big deal, and everything leading to Tarmon Gaidon (or however its spelled) instead just... doesn't.
Then you'll have what the LoS show did to the books. I can (usually) enjoy the show for what it is. But it (after getting deeper into it) very very very rarely actually depicts anything from the books. And I don't mean improved, I mean just throwing out important points.

That's a bit extreme isn't it?
That would be like there being a group of seekers, instead of one. Plus I thought the Sword of Truth was affecting the seeker in the show like it does in the book, with rage and what not.

have you read the chronicles of narnia yet? it's not a novel per se, it's a series of short and moderate-sized novels: the magician's nephew, the lion the witch and the wardrobe, the horse and his boy, prince caspian, the voyage of the dawn treader, the silver chair, and the last battle. the lion the witch and the wardrobe is what the movie was based on, all the others tend to be ignored by the mainstream.

I'm probably 75% through "A Madness of Angels", if anyone enjoy modern magic/new ways of explaining magic this book got tons of it and I love it. I wish there was a game that illustrated the ways they explain/use magic in this book. I'd geek it till the end of days.

I got maybe two chapters into the first book of the Wheel of Time series and forgot about it. Now that Belle hinted at what's in store, I'm even more hesitant at digging it back out again.

I hadn't made it a point to watch the show, as I normally don't watch television, until I reread the first book a couple of weeks ago. I found it on YouTube. Some of it is good, and some of it is like "WTF, really?" They contradict themselves a lot, and busted out most of the book's big reveals within the first five episodes, reveals that provided much of the secrecy and conflict until the second half or very end. I understand perfectly that they can't keep everything the same, and the object of the series was to "give the fans some new surprises," but they also completely butchered some of the characterizations. That being said, it's still entertaining and I can enjoy it for what it is. I feel bad for Goodkind, though. The reason he hadn't released the rights until now was because he thought people wouldn't honor his series properly.
