Not so much a content idea, but ... - Super Buu - 02-01-2006

When I thought of this, I found myself yearning for the 'What can we do?' thread, but it's locked Tongue

Basically, for quests, I think there should be more flexibility from the original reward. I'm not having a go at the staff, this is just a suggestion, but it seems like there's more of a tendency just to go with what's on the quest page, regardless of quest content.

If you want a good example of what I mean, look at the 'Trunky' quest in Heaven, then the 'Saiya-jin Uprising' quest on Vegeta. Roughly the same size in content, but one gave out 36 TPs 6000 zeni, the other gave out 7 TPs 500 zeni. Though the Saiyan-jin Uprising did have the whole co-operation thing going, it's probably not enough to merit that big a difference Wink Again, I'm not having a go at anyone, but this does seem a little unfair.

What I'm suggesting, therefore, is some kind of bonus/penalty thing. Basically if people outdo themselves in a quest, they receive a little extra for their hard work, and the opposite if people hit the bare minimum. Not too much, I would say a 100% bonus, 50% penalty would be the maximum adjustment, but this would be a step in the right direction.

Anyone feel free to post in this thread about your thoughts/modifications on the idea, but keep it civil please. 8)

Aye, I was thinking about the same thing. But it would get pretty difficult for the staff to judge. I think with this, the member can get a good idea of the reward they're shooting for beforehand, and the maximum adjustment is only half or double. So the staff don't just have to pull some numbers out of nowhere. Basically keeping the quest system as it is, but adding some flexibility.

Edit: This would also negate the clumsy necessity of asking a member to write more if they haven't met the requirements - instead, just give them a penalty Wink

Quests with rewards like that are designed for groups of people, where the quest reward is split.

What's the point in three people working together on a quest so they can split 10 TP and 500 zeni?

Regardless, the point of quests is to guide people to RP. The fact that it gives a reward is pretty secondary to getting people to RP. Personally, I would prefer that there weren't any quest rewards at all, but that's just me. I think that the staff have given out higher rewards in certain instances in the past. Lower rewards, I believe, have never happened though. If a person hasn't RPed to what we feel are the stanards for the quest, then they won't be ruled as having completed it.

The problem is, if there weren't any quest rewards, then power would be determined entirely by time here, from weekly training points. Putting less of an emphasis on actually RPing. That would suck. I cringe when I see people who've RPed actively for half a year, who are less powerful than someone who's RPed once every two weeks for a year.

However, I'm not asking for a radical change - all I'm asking for is a little flexibility, to make rewards more sensical. If you look at the two examples, Trunky and Saiya-jin Uprising, the reward system seems a little ... skewed.

Any other opinions would be appreciated, from staff or member alike Tongue

Power can also be determined through saga rewards, spars, power-ups, techniques, accessories, and raw writing ability. Yes, time helps, but with the new "MIA" system, it will start to play less of a role than it used to. Those that remain active and do their best will recieve more than those that don't.

Not too long ago, there were no quests at all. People had to RP for the sake of *gasp* RPing. It wasn't about trying to fill some quest's requirements so you could get a few more TP or some extra zeni. As I said, there have been instances where people have recieved more than the quest reward, and there will conintinue to be instances where thats the case. However, that's not something that will be commonplace, or else its meaningless.
