[08] Spars and Fights

SPARS AND FIGHTS

Spars

A spar is a friendly (or not-so-friendly) training fight that is between two or more player characters. No one can be killed or seriously injured. They are a good way to interact with other characters and improve your role-playing skills, and you can earn a little zeni as well. In order to engage people in a spar, you must be on the same planet, and cannot be in two places at once or do multiple things at the same time (e.g., you cannot spar somebody in one thread and at the same time be role-playing in a different thread). You can take a break from your personal role-play or training to spar someone, just so long as you are committed to one or the other.

Here are a few additional rules to remember about spars:
  • You are not allowed to spar with NPCs or use Body Split to spar with yourself. Those are considered character development role-plays only.
  • Mental spars are allowed and count as a normal spar, but only if all participants have Telepathy. Participants of mental spars may be on different planets, including the afterlife. All participants must have met In Character prior to the mental spar.
  • If your partner(s) become inactive at any time during the spar, it is considered null and void.
  • There is no fluid timing allowed for spars. As of Jan. 14th, 2011, you are allowed to fluid time spars.
  • As with any other IC post, you are not allowed to post any OOC comments and all role-plays must be 300 words minimum. Infractions will be given for non-compliance.

In order to set up a spar, you make arrangements with another player on the same planet as you. Post a thread in the Spar/Fight Forum titled “[Spar] Player 1 vs. Player 2” except fill in the details, like “[Spar] Bob vs. Joe” or what have you. For a large group of people, “[Spar] Free-For-All” is acceptable as well. Each participant will equally post back and forth until the spar is finished. There doesn’t have to be a winner or a loser, so don’t worry about that. When you’re done, whoever has the last turn makes a post in the Updates forum asking for a staff member to evaluate and determine the zeni rewards. Each participant is graded on his or her individual efforts. As with any other update, please wait 72 hours before bumping. Spars take longer than most normal updates.

Remember, the higher quality of your role-playing, the better rewards you’ll get. No rewards will be given out for minimal effort. Don’t expect to be able to post one crappy role-play and get something out of it.

Spar rewards are as follows:
Quote:Average Role-play: 100 zeni

Good Role-play: 200 zeni

Exceptional Role-play: 300 zeni
Fights

In a fight, you are risking your livelihood. This isn’t training: it’s the real deal. Fights can be used to settle an In Character dispute, to challenge someone for possession of a dragon ball, or just for character development. First, you need to find your opponent(s) by Ki Sensing them out or some other method; they must be on the same planet as you. Next, you must officially challenge them via PM or through role-play. All participants must agree to the fight before it starts. Once everyone has agreed, post a separate thread from your personal, group or saga role-play thread titled the same as you would a spar, except substitute “Fight” in place of “Spar.” The rest of the procedure is the same as a spar: back and forth equally until you’re done and post for an update. As with any other update, please wait 72 hours before bumping. Fights take longer than most normal updates.

In a fight, there must be a winner or a loser. If it’s a draw, both players walk away, although they may both be seriously injured. The winner can choose to kill or spare the loser. If the loser is spared, the winner may seriously injure them. Draws or losers with serious injuries must wait one week of OOC time to recover before fighting or sparring again. Those who have Regeneration or someone who has Healing used on them will only have to wait three (3) OOC days instead. If the fight is a challenge for a dragon ball, the winner claims the ownership. No rewards for fights will be given to any participant.

Here are a few additional rules to remember about fights:
  • No one is allowed to jump in a fight after it has started unless they are physically present before it began, regardless if they have Combat/Travel Teleportation or Ki Sense. Fights would take a matter of minutes, and realistically no one would have time to fly in or would randomly sense someone in trouble.
  • Staff determines who wins and who loses. If the staff member feels it’s even, a draw may be declared. However, the participants of the fight may determine a winner and a loser on their own, as long as it is cleared with staff and all participants agree. Keep in mind that deaths and suicides determined by members will heavily affect your judgment in the afterlife.
  • Any participant of the fight may attempt to run away at any time. In order to get away, you’d need Travel Teleportation, Time Stop, a higher Agility, or any type of cloaking. Participants may not run away if a Stasis Grenade or any like item is used.
  • Fights may be called off as a draw at any time as long as all players agree.
  • There may be multiple winners and losers, in the case of alliance fights or free-for-alls.
  • Mental fights are not allowed (i.e., people on different planets using Telepathy. “Mind invading” Custom Techniques that have been purchased through XP are allowed as long as all fighters are physically present in the same area).
  • If your opponent(s) become inactive at any time during the fight, it is considered null and void.
  • There is no fluid timing allowed for spars. As of Jan. 14th, 2011, you are allowed to fluid time spars.
  • As with any other IC post, you are not allowed to post any OOC comments and all role-plays must be 300 words minimum. Infractions will be given for non-compliance.

_=So wake me when it's through
I don't want to feel the things that you do
Don't worry, I'll be fine
I just don't want this dream, wake me up inside=_
