Speaking of what I did while I was alive, I basically went after Rose as my "target" then never let go as a way to test mafianess, and because he kinda made a bad play with his secondary role. I was basically waiting for the Sheriff or Sheriff-like role to reveal themselves then ride that cash cow to victory. Turns out I was so annoying the mafia just wanted me to die. Damnit Whompt how couldn't you see the signs!?

Yeah, if Jarka's pardon hadn't come through and Whompt had been killed, Kaden would have followed shortly after, and the Mafia win would have been trivial. The last-ditch Doctor claim is typical Mafia defensive-ploy, but Jarka (for whatever reason) jumped on it. It turned out right, though 4 times out of 5, I don't think that would have been the right move.

As for John's point, we DID, at that point, need to try to lynch Kaden. There was no guarantee there was a Doctor, and the outlook was less-than-rosy as long as he was alive.

It's very easy to say 'Oh, I would've done that differently.'

EDIT: The sheer luckiness of it all is annoying. If Jarka simply hadn't logged on in that ten minute frame, Whompt prob would have died, and Kaden would have followed that same night. If the Sheriff hadn't correctly assumed (somehow, somehow) that there was indeed an evidence-planter (not exactly a super-common power-role), Whompt would have died, and Kaden would have followed thereafter. If Vad had survived merely one extra day, he likely would have made it to the end, and would have been immune to Kaden's ability, which was pretty much the only basis for all townsperson activity thereafter.

In all honesty, I'm assuming that the "evidence planter" that Kaden assumed came from my attempted defense using planted evidence.

I did find it hilarious that someone ACTUALLY got evidence planted on them the next day, and it mattered. It made his pleas for innocence slightly unbelievable.

The day I knew I was going to die, I actually had a disagreement with my fellow mafia members. I told them that attacking Kaden wasn't going to get them a kill, and that the doctor (assuming there was one) was going to protect him. They were all "OH NOEZ BUT WE HAZ TO KILLZ HIM". My plan was going to be to eliminate the people that he had already confirmed as townies so as to leave more people available for the misdirected lynching, but apparently they wanted to waste a night :-(.

It is easy to say it because it's the right move. Then again, having become a victim of it, and singlehandedly losing the game because of it, I have experience with that particular brand of failure. The point is, if you THINK somebody's going to be protected, then don't go for that person. Blah blah, history repeats itself, blah blah learn from past mistakes, blah blah, John Doe's terrible at Mafia.

As well, Jarka's power immediately ends the day. That day phase (where Jarka pardoned Whompt) would have still had several hours left for people to vote, unvote, open new arguments, etc. Saying that she "just happened" to log on at that time isn't really an incredibly lucky break (at least in the sense that she miraculously saved Whompt's ass at the last minute), though the fact she actually DID save him was a lucky break for the town.

I was really happy with the balance over all. As a side note, I almost re-rolled the roles when the Cop got the sibling secondary... and then it was also the role that could take over for the cop, seemed like it would be broken but I might've had both siblings die if one died in that case. Ended up just sticking with the first random role because I wanted them to be actually random and not hand pick roles for everyone. It would've been awesome to make John Doe mafia again though.

And I wasn't really that concerned about any "cheating", I would've just stopped the game if that was true. I just thought there were maybe people talking about the game outside the thread, or while dead... which isn't the most fair thing that happens. You'll never get a game where everyone follows those rules perfectly though.

Yeah, the game seemed about as well-balanced as it can ever get. Cop with sibling IS way strong, but then, Mafia weren't exactly sitting ducks. Just got a bad bounce with losing Vad so early.
