Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce
#41
I do like that, after no. 5, they steered a little clear of the Romance side of history. Eg. in 5 they say that Sun Ce died from fright after seeing the ghost of some officer he killed (or something, some form of ghost). Historically, he was ambushed on his way to Xu Chang when Cao Cao was attacking Yuan Shao at Guan Du and was fatally injured in the attack. That is how it's told in no. 6.

Romance of The Three Kingdom doesn't really give much credit to the brilliance of Cao Cao and the excellence of Sun Ce who was arguably the best leader that Wu had. However, I'm pretty sure in the book that there was no such thing as Sun Ce was not mentioned to die by seeing some ghost, so that was probably one of those ridiculous things implemented by the game.

Historically though, I believe he was assasinated after he killed Huang Zhu to avenge his fathers death, on one of his hunting trips. That's what it was said in the book The Three Kingdoms.

I agree that Cao Cao doesn't get enough credit in the games.

Well... except for Orochi Warriors. He was about as badass as they got.

Records of the Three Kingdoms is a historical record and as such is incredibly dull.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a story, and a very good one. As a story it obviously had its own purpose, which for Luo Guanzhong was a political and philosophical one. Therefore the characters are obviously given their own slant, Liu Bei as a hero, Cao Cao as a villain etc. Apart from this kind of artistic interpretation on character and a few fictional stories, it's generally academically accepted that Romance of the Three Kingdoms is still a mostly historical work.

Can't imagine why anyone would want to read the former. It's horrendous.
