Whompt Wrote:The problem with a quality-based system is that it would place an awful strain on the staff, as they'd have to read all the roleplays and choose how to reward them. Even if we use a system where the members grade the roleplays and the majority wins, we run into the issue of whether or not people will actually grade them, or even if enough people will do so to provide an accurate assessment.

Don't get me wrong, I feel that a difference in strength is important in a DBZ roleplay. I just believe that a character with a larger amount of techniques can show that appropriate strength difference. Especially if we rework Power-ups to state what they do in terms of roleplaying instead of stat boosts. For example, if a Tier 1 power up approximately doubled your strength. A description like that would give a feeling of CA without actually needing to put the number out there.

This was considered. Ultimately, though, techniques provide two-way gains. Just because I, as Kaden, have purchased a bunch of techniques does not mean that I am the stronger/better character/writer. Someone else could come in and, during a fight, just blow everyone away, writing-wise, using the very techniques I have created. In this case, it still comes down to the subjective quality of the writer.

Unless you're only talking about techniques which actually increase a character's "power." That creates a very binary system wherein either everyone involved in a fight has power-up X, which lets them actually be a match for one-another, or they don't and it becomes very "unbalanced."

Quote:Edit: Another thing I would like to see would be an IC mentoring thing. The characters who are inbetween roleplays, or would like to include a new member, could invite someone to join them. Sometimes it just seems that a lot of character only know a certain number of people, and I think something like this would not only build IC relationships with new characters, but it would bring the universe together as a whole.

Do you have any ideas about this? I'd love to see some elaboration.

To the staff thing. It's because I've known you guys forever and it seemed corny. It didn't make me laugh because it was a bad idea, it just seemed silly to meet you guys again.

Also I think a lack of CA raises a problem with tier transformations.

I remember this one time when we all pretty much agreed on what we should do with the rules.

Then none of it fucking happened. (Other than quests, which are still cool even if nobody is doing them).

On the topic of the system, I hate the job system and how it directly influences peoples ability to use tier transformations unless they have regen.

Edit: I want to be a jobless man like Goku. ='o

You can use your Power Up without sacrificing PP in a personal story. PP is used in PvP events and in Saga's.

That changes little. It still means I have to deliver teh newspaper to go ssj if I participate a lot in events. It's why I chose regen.

So solution=PP regens after PvP/saga events?

The way I see it, members could volunteer their "free" time to write with new members, at once bringing the newbie up to speed to the style and quality of writing here (if thats a problem) and allowing the new character to know someone else in the universe. The easiest way I could see would be for members to actually watch the Join Forum for someone new and offer to help on their own.

Another way would be to ask for volunteers and put their names on a list. Mentors would be chosen on a rotational basis from that list for every new member.

There are so few points at which you use PP outside of sagas, and sagas usually give you money anyway.

I'm going to go ahead and say no more derailing this thread with posts about the system.

This is about ways to increase/maintain activity. Please make a new thread to discuss potential changes to the system.

Ahem...

Isn't the answer here obvious? There is one simple solution that solves almost all of these problems. Like most things in life, you can just throw money at it.

Simply put, turn chubbs into a business. Why is World of Warcraft so flippin awesome? Because it cost money upfront and every month to play. Duh.

How awesome would CA be if it was based on quality not quantity? Because you could easily afford a staff to judge the roleplays. Chubbs staff would be alot different if chubbs put food on their table.

Not just that, but you could do random events. Imagine if staff popped in your thread and caused a random event to take place in your thread. Something unique to your story because the staff member had no problem reading you story afterall thats what hes paid for.

Im serious here, people pay for quality and I think theres alot of potential for an inovative and interactive quality game here if you turn chubbs from a hobbie to a business.

Require membership fees (what you charge is up to you, but at $30, which is the most you could get away with, you could make $3000 a month with just 100 players.

Enrollment fees- Seriously, make enrollment special and you can charge for it. Lets say you hire an anime artist and everytime I make a character i get unique artwork of my character off my description.

Send out a physical welcome aboard package to all new members, cost a few bucks, buts its personal, builds a relationship and we're charging them now so who cares.

Create a logo- brand recognigtion which helps for merchandise (clothing, retail ext) add a shop page for ecommerce purchasing and dont think this is selling out. Ive been a chubbs fan for years and would have killed for a chubbs shirt!

And most importantly actually market chubbs! If you start charging you can take that money and advertise chubbs. Seriouly guys, im not kidding. We are in the entertainment industry... how much do movies make? How much do music albums make? How much money does the gaming industry make? Wait, isnt chubbs a game? Name a game you love and ill show you the money it cost to get that game to you.

Well we all love chubbs, how much would you pay, whats it worth to? Now, how much better would the game quality be if people wete paid to improve the experience for you the player?

I have so much more on this subject and I feel that chubbs has achieved all the success it can as a hobby and until it makes the jump to a game/service/business it just cant grow.

Even if you hate every idea I offered, you can't ignore that if this game made money we could use the money to not only get more members, but also to improve the overall quality of the game. Something I woulnd't mind throwing a few dollars to every month...

Yeah, but just... just the only way we're gonna see a drastic change at this point is gonna be neigh unreachable. The sea of play-by-post RPGs is VAST and DEEP, not the least of them based off of obscure, out of date anime and hostile really obscure, unnecessary rules. I'm not saying that this isn't a great site, but it has buckled and withered under the limited marked for the genre. All of that on top of the fact that the vast majority of the members here are in our "I have a job, what the fuck" stages of our lives and have more obligations than we want with less time to spend on writing about non-canon DBZ characters with a bunch of people that we regularly fight with.

If everyone decides "Hey, we agree on a far better system!" that'd be great, but I just don't think that will happen. I think, in my vain predictions, that we will get a few new members every now and again, losing more all the while until it's just a few old timers still doddering on with their story, mostly for themselves.

That's where we are now.

I, for one, am comfortable with it. *shrug*
