Grimm's Fairy Tales Presents...
#41
Hold a saga early (a couple months in) which leads to, say, two people being chosen for Jedi training. Once they become Jedis, people will know that they can become Jedis, but you can still make it as hard to get as fusion (and more people would have fusion, but there are so many other choices to give out, y'know). Sure, these two people may get it easier, but it would serve a purpose. Sometimes you need to bend your own rules if you want it to work out.

If everyone has Jedi, it will bring members short-term, but not long-term.

I like that idea. Make it "easy" at first, then dangle it in front of them for a while.

How would becoming a Sith Lord work out?

You have to eat Chewbacca.

Or just kill someone of the light persuasion.

Wow, HF. That's a great idea. If you wish to help/run the saga/something when/if this finally gets started, you're welcome to. If not, then I'll do it, but just thought I'd give credit where credit's due.

So...to become a sith you just kill a jedi? Big Grin I take it it'll have to be a one on one battle...something of that nature. Soon to be warriors of the dark side wouldn't team up to bring down a single Jedi would they?

Well, I was considering making the saga a sort of good vs. evil thing, and then like an NPC Jedi Master and the NPC Sith Lord could offer training to the character who was the best on each side of the battle at the end of the saga.

I think it would make more sense if they become "force-sensitive" at some point, and have to decide through RPing which side they choose. Based on how they've already RPed their character, the choice would most likely be obvious, but it still needs to be RPed. You don't just become force-sensitive and suddenly are "OMG I'm a Sith LOLOLOL". And I think there should also be a way to redeem oneself, either through the kind act of a light-sided character, or you just hit rock-bottom and realize the monster which you have become. Along with that should be an ability to fail in your light-side training when you give into anger. You could spend countless hours RPing the hidden darkness growing within you as it eats your soul.

It's still in the works, however slowly. I'm coming up with the rules documents gradually, as I think of them.

My vote goes for everyone allowed to be Jedi, btw.

Yes, Jedi were somewhat rare, but there were, I believe, hundreds during its hey-day (which, I think, would be the time that would be most sensible to do a SW RPG). I highly doubt any quality RPG these days will have to worry about sustaining more than fifty strong members.

^co-sign. I'm hoping all goes well, it's clear to say that for the most part people are joining a SW rpg to be either a jedi or sith lord. Besides you can always make them attend an academy, activity, quality of roleplaying etc can determine if they move up from Padawan and whatnot.

Yeah.

Or, even more interesting, you could have it so that there are independent (read, 'neutral') groups that also specialize in the development of the Force-attuned. That way, it's not just polarized; there can be folks like Kreia from KOTOR II (though she might've actually been Sith, I don't remember) who aren't exactly Sith, but aren't exactly Jedi. Perhaps have the Jedi be not quite so centralized or powerful, so that those who are independent aren't necessarily fringe; in other words, every member is fringe in that they're Force-attuned, and those members can align themselves with any number of groups (or, make up their own master who would train them), who specialize in a number of different developments of the Force (similar to the Trees present in KOTOR, where any Force-wielder can learn anything, but the Sith have a much better job of everything awesome, and the Jedi have a much better job of shit-powers like Midi-Healing and Knight-Bravery-Useless).

To summarize

1) The website won't succeed unless every character can be Force-attuned to some extent from the get-go.

2) It should not be polarized; there should be more than just Jedi and Sith.
