The other characters that have unlockables have silly items, too, (axetinguisher? ubersaw?) but at least they have a practical use. If the Heavy got five seconds of 100% critical hits simply for landing a melee strike, then the KGB would be much more practical. But, you have to actually kill someone with melee using the slowest character in the game to get a few seconds, most of which is used up by just switching to the main weapon, and there's no guarantee that anybody will even still be around by then. That's asinine.
