I have Asperger Syndrome. That makes writing essays pretty hard because I can almost never concentrate on something other than my current fad in my spare time. Strangely enough, I tend to do better in controlled conditions; in the exam room I perform inexplicably well, but leave me to complete a small piece of coursework with 2 month's advance warning, and it won't get done. Usually the best way for me to do an essay is to sit in a classroom in silence while a teacher is nearby, but unfortunately not many in college are willing to do that.

I completely agree with Krillin's stance on medication, though. The worst is when people take pills for things like depression. Sure, it'll make you feel good in the short term, but it won't fix the root of the problem. The only way is to deal with it. And it is harder than if you're a 'neurotypical' person, but I don't think medication is the way out.
