Face to Face
Nappa and Retane
Nappa and Retane
Retane hurried across the field to get under some shelter. He didn't want to bring too much attention to himself, but he figured it was safe with the sun only just starting to come up.
As he passed into a handful of trees, he heard a voice nearby. "Is that you, Retane?" The namek spun to see a large, hulky saiyan grinning at him. "Good to see ya."
"H...Hey," Retane was a bit surprised at the friendly entrance, but played it off well. He stepped forward and the clapped hands in greeting. "You too."
"How's the morning treaten ya?" Nappa jerked a thumb at his bag. Some nunchaku were sitting on top of it. "I've been campin here, hoping someone would show. Glad it was you."
Retane threw his bag down, acting as if he was going to stay. "Good. An Android attacked me earlier," he lied. "Burned me up a bit. I'm fine now."
"Damn, that sucks," Nappa admitted. He shrugged, "We'll be good now that we found each other."
It was then that Nappa made the mistake of turning around. Retane pulled a card from the box and looked at it. Nine of Hearts. His eyes began to very gently change color, and then darken. The card was almost completely engulfed with the color black.
Nappa stopped walking when he realized that things were getting dimmer. When he turned, he realized that Retane's color had changed a bit as well. "What's...what are you doin? What's going on?"
The darker namekian stepped forward, right in front of Nappa. Nappa stood his ground, ready in case something was going to happen. But nothing prepared him for the sudden flick of Retane's wrist, and the card that peirced into his neck.
"Hrk..." Nappa grunted. He reached up, agressively pulling the card out. Blood spilled over the namekian, but he didn't care. The red liquid kept oozing from the shocked saiyan even after he fell backwards, onto his butt, and then all the way laying down. He put a hand over his open wound. A single card-sized slit that stopped his breathing.
"A blanket..." Retane whispered, almost possessed by the beautiful feeling of the night stopping the day. The sun couldn't get into the his little circle. "A blanket of darkness. Just for you, Nappa."
It was then, after that dramatic closing, that Nappa was the third person killed in Dante's Abyss.
