I'm pretty sure cliché doesn't matter when it comes to asking someone out for the first time.
Girls generally want originality in character (show that you're not just interested in the boulders hanging roughly six inches below their face), conduct (be polite. She'll expect you to open doors and such for her, but if you're walking down the street, walk on streetside, and other such rules of etiquette. Don't be a nazi by them, but do show consideration), and conversation (Stay away from talking about the weather just because it's stereotyped. Talk about anything and everything, particularly things that interest her. Don't lie to her about what interests you, however, as things could get potentially awkward if this relationship actually goes for the long-run).
