Mortal Kombat.....something
#21
I was wondering how they got a little star power in there since it looked fan made. I checked IMDB and didn't see any new MK items either. That doesn't make it any less cool though.

I like how the comments on the video have an overwhelming support in the thumbs up/thumbs down system, and the comments themselves, and those few people that don't like it have to post "FUCKING SHIT FUCKING SUCKS BARAKA IS NOT A NIGGER!" (their words) over and over to try to make it look like they are the majority.

Also, Jeri Ryan is alleged to have posted on her Twitter that this was a promo video the director put forth to Warner Bros and based on fan reaction, they will decide whether to let said director reboot the franchise. I think that I can have faith in the director to do well with the rest of the movie if the detail and concepting are anything like that promo.

By the way guys, yes, Johnny Cage dies. Its what he does. Its sorta his thing as the Kenny of the MK series. He dies in pretty much every thing.

Sub-Zero killed Scorpion, but then Scorpion made a deal and came back for vengeance and killed Sub-Zero in the Mortal Kombat tournament. The current Sub-Zero is the younger brother of the original Sub-Zero and he came to kill Shang Tsung, and ends up being protected by Scorpion as atonement for killing his brother.

Seriously, I think this'll be a sweet adaptation. I saw this and immediately thought, OH SHIT CHUBBZ WILL LOVE THIS!

I like the fact that they altered the characters while still pretty much keeping their spirits alive in crazy altered versions. I love what they did with this concept. It's like an Else Worlds comic in DC, but with Mortal fucking Kombat. The fight choreographer is known having SICK ASS fights, and if you put some good actors in that bitch it'd make a sweet movie.

You can't, however, go to this movie expecting something like the goddamned Departed. It's MORTAL fucking KOMBAT! You should just expect kick ass fights, crazy ass characters, and a paper thin plotline that traces into each one of the fighter's pasts. Even the trailer delves even deeper into the 'respectable cinema' arena than that, so I'm stoked as hell!

He was dead throughout the second game, which is why he's in the background of one of the maps and isn't pickable.

now i know that's wrong. i played mk2 for approximately 2 consecutive years (without sleeping, eating, or breathing) and he's playable.

maybe you're thinking of that mystery character in the background of the pit2 stage. people call him hornbuckle because of the "hornbuckle who?" joke in the same game.

I got confused with the Game Boy version of MK2, which didn't have him as a character (nor most of them) due to memory constraints.

But it was the end of the normal 2 leading into 3 that killed him, along with the general story after.

I also think we all need to keep in mind that this is like, a PILOT. It's not the actual real thing at all. It's completely un-budgeted and fan made. The director just knew that star, person guy thing.

I wouldn't call the guy who made that a fan. He's just a fledgling director hoping to get Warner Bros to pick up what he made as a movie with him as the director. That aside, what I hated about that couldn't be fixed with money.

Unfortunately, I spent most of the time thinking "why would they want to attach the 'Mortal Kombat' name to it?" They bastardized basically all the characters to make them fit into a world that might be remotely believable. I, personally, don't really care, but I can't imagine it will do more than annoy people who do like the MK series and seem convoluted and awkward to the people who don't know anything about it.

I, personally, think that it's a pretty sweet tie-in. I was never fussed on the MK mythos, mostly because it was pretty random and there was no interesting storyline to it. While the modernisation of old franchises occasionally butchers a universe, I think that this could be rather interesting.

The games aren't exactly competing with the other fighting game franchises either, so a little renewal isn't bad. Of course, that's 90% due to the engine being inferior in terms of competitive fighting games, and I site the fact that most tourneys run Tekken, SSF4, SF:3S, Guilty Gear, Blaz Blue, even Smash Bros before MK games.

It's 100% because their engine is completely inferior in terms of everything. Seriously, it's such a festering pile of shit. Play MK for ten minutes (if you can bare it) then pick up a game with a good engine behind it like BlazBlue or Street Fighter 4. Jesus Christ it pisses me off.

Especially when "the only way to do a combo" is to "hit a series of keys lightning fast with a pre-programmed official combo for those keys." No timing required, no skill, just hit those specific keys very fast and it'll do all the work for you. And look completely unrealistic while doing it. Other games require you to actually connect these attacks and practice them to get them right.

One thing I hate is fighting games where you have to memorise a series of button presses in order to actually have fun. I remember Tekken being a bitch for that. Also why I love Smash Bros and Street Fighter 4. With the latter you still have to remember some things but it's all fairly simple and intuitive, with lots of similar attacks between characters having the same kind of command input. Also it's just a great game.

So many fighting game mentions and not one single with Dragonball Budokai?

I am dissapoint. In any way, I don't think anyone who aren't a fan of the MK series will watch this movie. It's not really that appealing from 'the outside'.
