Toonami
#21
I remember watching Dragon Ball Z for the first time at Kaden's house. I think it was like 1998 or '99. The episode: "Fighting Power One Million". I remember thinking "Holy shit, that's a high power level...I wish I knew what that meant".

I remember when I first saw DBZ, my older brother tried to put me on. I brushed it off and was like wtf? I think it was the one where Gohan was skipping around the globe while Piccolo watched on like a pedophile. Yeah...when I got older I came to appreciate the sheer awesomeness the franchise had to offer. Were it not for toonami, I would have never came straight home after school. Who know's what type of trouble I would've gotten myself into...

No matter how many times I moved, how many schools I went to there was always someone who watched DBZ. I even went through 6th and 7th grade seeking out the strongest kids in my class and getting into fights to see how I would fare. Ah, good times.

I got into it during a marathon of the Goku vs. Vegeta fights, when he was busting out Kaioken. I remember thinking "THREE times?! That's INSANE! Goku, you're a loose cannon!!!"

My first contact with Dragonball Z was actually one of the OVA's. It was the one with Android 8 and the crazy Red Ribbon robot that destroyed errthing. After that I saw some episodes on YTV, I believe my first episode was when Recoome fought Krillin and Gohan. Fuckin' epic times. To this day Ginyu force is one of my favorite arcs.

I also remember during the Great Saiyaman arc, when Gohan was teaching Videl how to fly and shit. I legit meditated for 3 hours in my room trying to fly and conjure ki balls. Shit was the bomb. Fuck, I used to be so cool. What happened? Sad

If anyone has not tried to conjure a ki ball, use telekinesis, or levitate - they are not a true nerd.

Hours of my life as a 12 year old were spent trying to gather energy.

I used to think/pretend that the little whirlwinds that picked up leaves were my minions or messengers or omens...or something. The memory fades.

I did this all throughout elementary and middle school. I think I'm more surprised that I can't do it than I would be if I found that I could?

Also, I swear if you stand and move your hands in a circle with the palms toward each other, if you concentrate, after a while it feels like there's a ball there, and if you press your hands closer together, it gets denser and feels like your hands are repelling each other. Also, if you're doing this and someone puts a finger or a hand into the empty space between your hands, you can totally feel the intrusion, even with your eyes closed. My younger brother and I experimented with this extensively.

Legit, one of my most embarrassing memories growing up is when my sister walked in on me trying to conjure a ki ball. Awk-ward.

If life gives you lemons, hand them to me!
I've got a great recipe for lemon meringue pie.

Try lying on your back, closing your eyes, and putting your arms up straight in the air, palms touching. Then slowly begin to lower them (keeping your arms straight) down to the floor.

It's a pretty damn weird feeling, I'll tell you that much.
