The difference between a roleplayer and a place holder
#21
Reijin never posts short when voicing his point.

And I'm probably going to be echoing things said but I understood it as you want people to be more active with their characters. This is a roleplaying game where the people choose. They choose when they want to RP and what their character does and who they want to RP with.

I don't think you should have used Vegeta as an example because everyone is different.

A question for you is, why would you want to RP with Goku? Because of what he was in DBZ? Why not want to RP with Piccolo or Rad or Reijin because of who they are on Chubbs. Also if you want to RP with someone, Theres a PM box to discuss it. And why would you want to RP with Kakorott's handler if you already dislike how he is slow at how he posts?

If you do not like how they are posting, then don't post with them. You have that right you know?

An example: I Rp'ed with an old Nail and an Old Yamcha whenI started roocking to get Tokens. Both of them were to slack for me at the time so I left them. Yamcha was up for decision of joining Horsemen later on and though he joined I wasn't so for it because he wasn't as active as everyone was wanting at the time. I remember us kicking MB and Moochy because they weren't posting fast enough for us.

See it's not hard.

And to reiterate it, I don't think anyone should let go of their character if they meet the requirements. The staff made the rules long before this came up and well, unless you can convince Burter and Bardock, who handle the MIA thing mostly, to change it... then I dont see much of a point.

Why let go of a character you've created and come to be proud of in your own design?

Your analogy is practically perfect for my point then, Kollifum. If the person with the sports car chooses to use it just to get milk and eggs, then aren't they allowed to do this as long as they continue to make payments on the car? Who are you to suggest that they do something differnet?

Who cares? It's their character and they have the right to keep it as long as they want/can.

Maybe for short-ass posts, but some people want to put time and energy into their posts, reflecting their actual talent, instead of just pissing on the boards so they can remove their MIA tag.

One of the reasons, Koll, that I ended up letting Bardock go once was because I felt like I was just holding on to him. Predictably, I ended up regretting it because of the complete and utter morons that were manhandling him. When somebody lets a character go, it's very hard to find a quality replacement. Hell, most people have told me they love me as Bardock, but I haven't even come close to filling the shoes of Pops.

Yeah, I don't post as often, but I am of the mind that when I post, I don't want it to be something I'm going to regret later, because you can do a lot of stupid shit when you're just pumping out filler and waiting for a good idea.

This is a writing community, is it not?

Then shouldn't members have to...gasp...write?

Sure, they've been here for 6 years, who the hell cares!

This RPG will eventually die out, and if you haven't noticed, more and more members are quitting, HF, SB, Uub, Vegeta, get the big picture here...all the "vets" are leaving or sticking around hitting up 300 word posts...eventually that's all anyone is going to do. You'll have some newer people that can rp all the time while most of the others won't want to give up their characters and will write 300 word posts and that's it.

Simply put, this RPG was and will continue to be great if the opportunity to bring new people in still exists, but in order for that to happen, we have to clear those that don't have the time to rp out.

We'll never get so popular that we won't have room for new people. Having people clinging onto their characters doesn't affect how many people we can let into the RPG

You know, who are you to decide what is or isn't active? Right now it's two weeks and you go MIA which means you don't get any training and then 3 weeks and you're gone. Since you can post 6,000 words in a half hour, maybe people should go MIA after a day of inactivity. And if they don't roleplay in 2 days we just cut them loose, those hanger-ons.

Sarcasm and spite noted.

I was worried you might miss it without the proper tages.

And they...gasp...do! But quite a few apparently think they don't roleplay enough. How they actually have the balls to say that is an incredible amount of arrogance on their part, but they say it nonetheless.

Quote:Sure, they've been here for 6 years, who the hell cares!

Funny that you actually think that's a reason why they keep their character. No one is exempt from the MIA inactivity thing, unless they give a good reason for leaving, and have a strong history on the site, and even that's only good for short periods of time.

Quote:This RPG will eventually die out,

Prove it.

Quote:...and if you haven't noticed, more and more members are quitting, HF, SB, Uub, Vegeta, get the big picture here...all the "vets" are leaving or sticking around hitting up 300 word posts...eventually that's all anyone is going to do. And what's the issue here? You don't like 300 word posts? Then don't write 300 words per post. They are inside the rules. Should we amend the rules to say, "If Piccolo or Kollifum don't think you're interacting with the rest of the site enough, you are in danger of losing your character,"? Fuck no. But that's essentially what this boils down to.

If Chubbs dies out, it will be over my dead body.

Quote:Simply put, this RPG was and will continue to be great if the opportunity to bring new people in still exists, but in order for that to happen, we have to clear those that don't have the time to rp out.

As Burt said, we have no lack of characters for new members to join in as. If they're half as stuck on the idea of "main" characters in DBZ being the only ones worth joining as (such as a few we currently have on the site), then they probably won't care.

But you know what? Eventually, Kakarot will move on, and some no-name will step into his spot. I will move on one day, and someone will take Krillin. Someone will take Piccolo, and it will cycle on like that. OUR job is to make sure that Chubbs continues to improve, and will be stable when it is handed down like that. This does not include yelling at vets when they have done absolutely nothing wrong.

I like the part where someone told us the RPG is dying because we don't have Goku as the main character and how we don't require specific main characters to have to pump out a roleplay everyday since its a "popular character" that consists of 1,000 words. I mean, why not? If the RPG is going down the drain (been hearing this a few years now, and new people join, fall in love, and then say the golden age is over and its dying again, etc repeat cycle wash) then leave and go find somewhere else where its required that you post once every three days at risk of an IP ban to prevent you from having to tie up a character. That's fine by me. We will continue to do what we can to keep this environment so that anyone can bring any character out of the shadows and move it up. That's what I believe in, and that's what we continue to do.

It's this point that I adore about Chubbs. Just a few examples:

Android 20 got owned in the show, and he's actually a rather important character in this RPG.

Burter was in, what, two episodes? He's incredibly important in this RPG, and is at the center of quite a few sagas (unless he is running them).

Metal Koola was pretty much unimportant filler in the show. He's got the highest Speed on the RPG, and can pretty much pwnzor anyone.

Violet....well, I've never even heard anything about her, or seen any episodes she was in. And she's sexing up the RPG all over.

I'm sure you could find other examples. Those were the few that came to my mind.

I had a couple questions I wanted to ask Kolli.

Have you tried to RP with Kak or MK, or someone that's an "MIA dodger"?

Several times you have argued that these people should be more active so you can try to build relationships, strengthen an IC community and having a wider variety of multi-player writing experiences under your belt, so I thought this was a pretty basic question that wasn't answered. Personally, I've RPed with both Kak and MK on several occasions and any time they've slowed up I send them a PM or IM to the effect of ">=O" and see an RP in the next day or so. I have to be proactive enough to type three characters and click twice, but its really not hard to RP with them.

What was the whole point of this thread?

I'm not asking with sarcasm or anything like that, I'm genuinely curious. It seems to me that you just wanted to say "I think you guys don't post enough and I also think that's lame." I wouldn't really call that over-simplification, either. I read your initial post a couple of tmies.

What do you want us to do (if anything) about it?

This is kind of back to that "what's the point?" question. They're following all the rules. Yeah, it annoys a few people, but what then? They lose their characters? They should switch? They should promise to be more active? I see the complaint, but I don't really see any proposed solution or compromise. It just seems to be a complaint.

How long have you been RPing at Chubbs?

I really don't know. We get so many people coming back and switching and leaving and stepping out and blah blah blah that it makes my head spin. RPing in the same universe for seven years can be... trying. A lot of you say "they're old, so what?" but don't really consider what "old" means. With the possible exception of Metal Koola (I don't remember) and with Sam's recent passing of the touch, I've held a single character longer than anyone else on the site (not saying that in a bragging way, just putting it there to justify what I'm going to say). Its possible that that's not 100% accurate, but its damned close. Anyway, there ends up not being a whole lot to do after that long. Raditzu, as a character, is there. He's pretty much done. I have a few other things I want to do with him, developement wise, but other than that there's nothing new to do. And, really, I think I'm one of the exceptions for being able to continuely develope a character this long (also not said with ego, I'm just speaking from years of observation). Not only is there not much to do, there's not much I want to do. No one likes sitting down and forcing their writing. When you try to go against the natural flow of your writing you generally get a product you're not satisfied with. Without proper motivation, drive, or desire, there's usually not a natural flow. Simple as that. I could RolePlay more, but, frankly, I don't want to write now. As a writer you should fully be able to appreciate how unreasonable it is to ask someone to write when they have no motivation just because you think they should.

I got a little long winded with that one, but oh well, I think I made a couple of valid points. As others have done thus far, I will definitely commend your composure throughout this thread, and throughout the various threads that this topic has spanned. All of that, however, was said from a pretty member-esque point of view. If I were going to be all staffly about it I would just say "its not changing, so stuf!' But that would be unprofessional or something.

If someone more deserving came along, and could spell reasonablally well and had a decent bit of skill, I'd hand over Recoome myself.

I'm sure there are many a writer with talent who stop by, see their favorites are taken, and are turned off. If they were to find their favorites were in the hands of those that choose not to use them to their full potential, I'd assume them to be pretty angry. Thus, a good potential member is lost because of the laziness/busy lives of those that use their characters.

O no it wasn't even really a test I was just saying it bcuz i was thinking it. But if it was a test you passed, I like that btw you didn't go back on your word. :]

I'm not saying that the vets should be stripped of their characters or anything like that, but being able to keep them because of some half-assed thing they threw together(not saying you all do this, or that any of you do in fact, it's just my view) isn't exactly right.

It should be noted that their "half-assed stuff" is usually a bit better than the hardcore roleplays some of the newer members put together. So, are you knocking on their effort? Will the focus change once again in this argument?

Regardless, if someone came along who could write better and such, I sure as hell wouldn't give up Krillin.
