Superman's costume reflects the American flag for a reason. During the World Wars, America desperately needed something to rally around. Just as Tolkien created Lord of the Rings to provide Britain with its own mythos (though it's unlikely he had the war in mind), Superman was created for America.

Edit: I read the other thread a bit and I have this to say. Hulk > Juggernaut.

Theoretically, the Juggernaut should win. His power is magically endowed (essentially: once he gets going he can't be stopped). But The Hulk is always portrayed to be much stronger, and is:

So he could easily overpower Superman with a ki attack that could destroy a planet.

Superman can withstand the sun/stars, etc. SSJ4 Goku sent a Kamehameha into the sun (destroying Bebi in the process), and the sun didn't asplode or anything.

DBZ is very inconsistent anyway. Piccolo sending a ball of ki at the moon and exploding it with a power level of like 2000 is laughable. Vegeta's Final Flash cutting through the Earth's atmosphere, visible from space, would have meant he shot it at the sky, not downward. If it was truly as powerful as it was hyped up to be, everyone on the planet would have died from the resulting explosion.

Here's one for ya: The Joker vs. The Green Goblin.

You seem to forget Joker's extensive henchmen network, whereas GG is a lone wolf. I was thinking Joker was more cunning, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that they're equal in the tactics department. So yeah, GG would win, due to technological superiority.

I wish to God I could find the extensive post that proved this. The author literally went through every single Superman comic from every single canon Superman series, then went through every episode/movie that featured Goku, and proved beyond an objective doubt that Superman is the victor. Throwing around idiotic phrases such as "Oh, Goku can IT, so he wins" is moronic. Yes, he can IT, but what the fuck is he going to do when he can get to a certain place quicker than Supes? Yup. When it comes down to it, The Hulk could probably outpower Supes, if the fight dragged out long enough. He just doesn't have the vast array of powers Supes has at his disposal. In an arm wrestling contest though? Hulkster all the way. :-p
