The great thing about Rift is that almost any class can do most roles.

Rogues can tank, off-heal, ranged and melee DPS.

Clerics can tank, off-heal, heal, ranged, and melee DPS.

Warrior can Tank and melee DPS (most limited class in terms of versatility, but they are flat-out the best tanks right now, and extremely competitive DPS with Rogues (iirc)).

Mage can ranged DPS, off-heal, and heal (arguably, depends on gear).

Hit 16 today. I'm Kaaden. Rogue. Armorsmith and Butcher so far.

I'm mostly Assassin with splashes of Riftwarden and Bard for making myself strong enough to actually fight. Liking it so far. Can make myself quite tanky if need be without sacrificing too much damage.

This game is making me realize how spoiled I've become about video games. I was trying to figure out why I can't get into this as much as other games and it hit me: I can't get good graphics.

They used to not matter, but knowing that I can run WoW 25 mans at max no problem and not being able to turn of the settings in Rift even a little bit without hugely slowing down...ugh. It's not very pleasant to look at at base levels, and when I did crank it up to max just to see, it's a gorgeous game, I can't play said game and it irks me to no end.

I'm gonna see about doing some upgrading next payday, but for now, just...ugh.

I'm running a quad-core 4ghz CPU with a 560 gtx fermi graphics card, 4gb DDR3 ram, and RIFT still ran like poop when I was subscribed. Maybe because my CPU is AMD? I don't know.

If you're having issues with performance when you run higher settings, turn off shadows and reflections. Those are the two biggest offenders every single time.

My settings aren't set super high (mostly mid-range settings with a few things turned up) but I played windowed so it's more of a performance hog that way.

I just set it on like, mid, and then forgot about the graphics. I still play SNES-graphics games because I'm hipper and cooler than all of you shallow people.

I don't mind playing SNES games though is the thing. What I hate is know that this game should look ten times better than I can get it to without getting choppy

I do that, but it still poops. The main culprit is/was the spell effects - and even manually turning down VFX in config didn't help that much.

I hear they adjusted how VFX are done in raids now though, so maybe it'll be awesome. My favorite part of the game was the mass-invasion rifts and it sucked that I went from 60fps to 20 when combat started.
