PS3 anyone.

From what I hear, it's not so much "people fighting over the PS3" as it is muggers know what the lines are for and that those people are carrying in excess of $600 each, so they get held up and robbed.

Mail order FTW Wink (I'm not getting a PS3 until the price is at least half what it is now, but that's how I'd do it)

Sure.

Followed by really old country tracks, none of this hip new stuff the kids are all clamoring over.

After watching "Cheaters!" I found out that Sony is actually losing money for every ps3 brought...how the hell is that even possible? For every 60gb or whatever they loose 300 dollars or something like that. And for every other ps3 they lose 200 bucks...they're charging like 600 dollars a system and are losing money!

WTF is up with that?

lol sure, I'd say it's the same as the xbox 360...only thing about the ps3 is it doesn't charge you to play online games like the xbox 360 does. That somewhat justifies the high price but I still wont buy one unless I see a game I'd kill to play. And in the past few years there's only been two, X-Men legends and WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 06.

Sony will make it back through the additional parts for online and other accesories + selling games.

Yea I know that but I was so surprised to see that they were actually losing money!

Heh, kinda just showed how much you know about video game economics, Turles. Nearly every video game console is sold at a loss.

Yea...it does. Probably because I was never or have been interested in video game economics lol. Just interested in playing them Smile not figuring out how the whole business thing is ran.

But like I said, it surprised the hell out of me when I found that out lol.

Actually, every console has been sold at a loss. They make it up on the software side. Always have, always will.

No?

Sony does a lot more than video games. The gaming industry is just a single, small part of what Sony does. The fact that you can find a "Sony" anything in electronics should be proof enough of that. Yeah, they might lose some money in the initial stages of the PS3 launch, but that won't be enough to put them in any real financial danger and they'll make it up in no time.

EDIT: Go here:

http://www.sonystyle.com

And look at all the things that aren't PlayStation related that they sell.

EDIT2: Or go here:

http://www.sony.com/index.php

And look at all the things they do that aren't gaming related at all.

Nah. I don't see it happening. They stand to make way more money in the long run than they'll lose. This pattern happens the exact same way every time a new console comes out. It did with the PSX, it did with the PS2, and it will again with the PS3. The new consoles are expensive to produce and, as a result, mean the company loses money in the initial launch. Then games start coming out, people start spreading hype (or continuing to in some cases) and the money starts rolling in. That doesn't count things like hardware accessories or on-line services or any of that. This is just the start of a new cycle.

Sony's not going anywhere.
