I see why you could not like it, but it was intentional by the writers. They wanted the Joker to be an absolute, more nature then character. The way Satan always breezes into a story and whether he wins or loses doesn't seem to care, it is about the game. The Nolan's wanted a personification of evil, not a bad guy.

The deal with Harvey is the same as Ra's. If he's dead (which is the popular opinion right now), Batman didn't kill him. He jumped off him and they all three fell of the ledge. Batman saved Jim Jr., but he didn't save Harvey. Just like he didn't kill R'as, the train did, but he didn't save him when he could have. He's more of an indirect killer. He's like a mob boss, and unsavory circumstances are his hitmen.

He totally tackled that fucker off the side of a building. Sure he saved a kid, but he killed Harvey Dent in the process. He could have easily just decked the guy in the side of the face and knocked him out, but he opted to push him over the side of a building, lol. The Joker got Batman to break his one rule.

As far as "throwing him off the roof", he could have leapt into Harvey, both went falling, and he hold Harvey to save him, and Harvey slipped, just like any other movie. We don't know.

It's good to know how much of an effect a fictional character has on you. I won't even bother talking about Spider-Man with you. That series has a lot of come-back-from-the-dead plot twists.

They have to give Harvey Dent a funeral because if he lives then all the criminals he put away will be freed. Batman fell the same distance that Dent did and was able to run away after a few minutes. They were willing to lie about murders that Two Face had commited. Why wouldn't they lie about his death? There's no casket, only his portrait. If he'd died from the fall, they would've given up his body. No, I bet they said he died in the hospital explosion... before any of the murders took place so no one could even know that he had survived and he would be impossible to link to those murders. Their hopes of cleaning up the city die with the death of Harvey's reputation as Gotham's White Knight. He is probably being secretly treated in Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. When you are as rich as Bruce Wayne, you can cover things up pretty easily.



See? No casket, no body, no Dent.

Also, I've seen this movie 4 times.

edit: I also know that Nolan wants to avoid what the other movies did in regards to killing villains. He wants to make sure that these villians can return because the other movies had pretty much ruined a villian in hour and a half and they were quickly writing themselves into a corner. He wouldn't kill a villian without at the very least an opening for them to come back. Ra's al Ghul comes back through the use of the Lazarus Pit in the comics more than once.

Most forms of storytelling do, usually. But not a normal guy that falls 3 stories.

Although, I wonder if Nolan was hinting at Two-Face's "immortality" throughout the movie. He survived that hospital explosion (don't get that one at all), and when he was in the car with that guy and he shot the driver, something else happened that I noticed. Before he shot the driver he unfastened his seatbelt, and then the car flipped over. I don't see anyone rebounding from that any time soon. O_o
