New Addition: Power Points
#1
Given the reaction to the last post made in the Announcements forum, I thought it would be a good idea to say something here as well.

If you'll check your rosters, you'll see that a new Stat has been added. We call this stat Power Points, or PP. By purchasing Power-Ups, players will be able to spend PP to multiply their Combat Ability for a fight. To supplement this, each Tier of a Power-Up has been split into two levels, a Base and a Master level. Purchasing the Master level of a tier gives players access to their Power-Ups at reduced PP costs, making them available more often.

In addition to this, new items have been added to the Shop to allow the recovery of PP as well as equippable items to increase a character's PP pool.

With the addition of PP, some Techniques and some Abilities have seen additions to their functionality, so be sure to scan through the Rules threads.

Feel free to ask any questions here, but please read the Stats and Abilities/Techniques threads in the Rules forum first.

Why was this change implemented?

There were concerns of people just buying a Power-Up and, basically, being permanently transformed. Perma-SSJ is how we referred to it.

It's a fairly legitimate concern. While we can say a Power-Up is "tiring" or that it "drains the user" after being used, that never really stops anyone from using it however they wanted.

With the inclusion of Power Points, people have to think ahead of time before just snapping into a transformation.

EDIT: We're also looking at other ways to implement the use of PP, but that will come later.

What if someone is just roleplaying by themselves and wants to use a power-up for dramatic purposes or whatnot? Would they have to use a power point then, even if they're not use the power up in a PvP-context?

Damn. That's what I forgot to add.

Any offensive action taken while powered up constitutes the use of PP. So, if you're a saiyan who wants to go all golden just to show off, then you could RP doing that, turning back, and no PP would be spent.

I'll add that into the rules.

EDIT: Ignore this for the time being.

So, if I use a powerup within the context of a personal stroyline, what then?

What about in the event of a saga, against an NPC?

Will it ALWAYS cost PP to use a powerup against another player? What about spars?

In a saga, power-ups will cost PP. Doesn't matter if it's against an NPC or not.

The person running the saga will have the freedom to make specific rulings about PP, given the circumstances, but that's the default rule.

Yes. "Spars," as I assume you're thinking of them, don't exist anymore. Using a Power-Up against another player will cost PP.

Undecided atm.

I like the idea. Power-ups used sparingly makes them more dramatic.

Using a Power-Up in a personal storyline will cost no PP unless it's being used against a player. Going SSJ and fighting some criminal organization of NPCs won't cost a thing, though.

I like the way this system has been resolved! PP also pulls the reins in on powerful techniques... I like it a lot.

EDIT: I guess my only real complaint is that you HAVE to buy things to regain PP. Like, one/two weeks wouldn't be too unreasonable. Being able to have a tier 1 power up every two months isn't particularly overpowered in my mind.

That was gonna be my question. Is purchasing the only way to get PP back?

Not that I'd have a problem with it if that were the case.

Stats and Tech/Ability pages.

How does Healing Ability affect others' PP recovery?

50xp per PP (power training tech) seems excessive. Do you have to have the requisite PP for basic power-up to even get the tech? That would put tier-1 power-up at 275xp (75xp for tech, 200xp for required PP). Then, "master" power-up is another 50xp on top of that. Even if you don't need full PP to get the basic power-up, 75xp for basic tier-1 plus 50xp for master, and 100xp for minimal 2PP puts tier-1 at 225xp, which would be less xp than non-master which makes basic level power-ups superfluous.

Also, forcing players to spend money (recovering PP) to use such XP-heavy techs only discourages most from even bothering. I assume the only people who will ever bother with power-ups now are the people who regularly come out on top in sagas and have the most bonus XP and money to throw around, creating a larger divide between them and everybody else.

I get the idea that PP can be used to "power up" other techs. Like, Kamehameha + PP = Chou Kamehameha. That actually seems good. It's not very clear, though, so I want more specifics on that.

However, I can't get over spending money or requiring certain abilities to recover PP. Sure, have it as an option but not a demand. Just restricting use to X per saga/quest (where X is character's #PP) would be fine, and people would have to use recovery items/abilities to exceed their natural limit during a single event.

At first I pretty much hated it, seemed to much like a video game. Still seems like that but after sitting on it for a day, I can safely say I can treat this, like the entire new system, with indifference. Besides everyone else likes it, and if they I am.

So, you know, I'll let this one slide.

You start out with 5 PP. You can use the first tier and it's master level without having to buy ANY of the Power Training.

You just have to make custom techs that burn PP. They're just all kinds of burl, but you can't just throw them around whenever you like it. It keeps you from using your insta-kill move (which granted, cost like 34563737 exp) every other second. It'll also help you keep your more powerful move's EXP cost down while keeping them balanced.

EDIT: If I understand it all correctly.
